Job summary

Mistral.ai is seeking a talented Research Engineer to join the Search and Services Platform. You will build and operate large-scale search and data services powering models, from self-hosted Vespa clusters to knowledge graphs and databases, with hundreds of TBs of storage and thousands of CPU cores.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in search engineering or data infrastructure, strong Python/Go skills, and hands-on experience with Vespa, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, and Kubernetes.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in search engineering, data infrastructure, or similar SRE / platform roles.
• Proficiency in Python and Go and best practices in software development.
• Hands-on experience with large-scale search or data systems (Vespa, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, ClickHouse).
• Exposure to infrastructure management: containers, orchestration (Kubernetes), infra-as-code, observability.

Responsibilities

• Designing, building, and operating large-scale search infrastructure (self-hosted Vespa clusters, managed indexes, vendor endpoints).
• Self-hosting and maintaining diverse data sources: knowledge graphs, scholarly data, statistical databases, open data portals.
• Designing interfaces and tools to expose services to models and agents (YQL, SPARQL, MCPs).
• Building data pipelines to ingest, index, and serve massive datasets and pretraining corpora.
• Collaborating with researchers and adjacent teams; producing documentation to help teams use services.
