Job summary

Mistral, a leader in full-stack AI solutions, seeks a Research Engineer on Forge to turn customer requirements into reliable training and deployment workflows—from CPT/SFT to RL and distillation. You will work end-to-end across model adaptation, evaluation, data, and infrastructure, bridging research and production constraints.

Qualifications

• Strong Python engineering skills with experience in large codebases and CI.
• Hands-on experience with PyTorch, JAX, or similar frameworks.
• Strong systems and infrastructure fundamentals.
• Experience with LLM training or post-training, including fine-tuning, RL, distillation, evaluation, or data pipelines.
• Excellent debugging skills in distributed or complex systems.
• Clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• High agency, low ego, and comfort in fast-moving environments.

Responsibilities

• Build and improve post-training and evaluation workflows (CPT/SFT/RL/distillation).
• Develop tools and pipelines for synthetic data generation, curation, training, evaluation, and deployment.
• Debug and harden large-scale ML systems: distributed training, scheduling, checkpointing, observability.
• Improve the Forge codebase via APIs, tests, and documentation.
• Push the frontier of our RL training stack for frontier-model scale.
• Ensure Forge deployment is seamless across diverse clients (hardware, software stacks, cloud/on-prem).
• Collaborate with researchers and infrastructure engineers to translate bottlenecks into improvements.
