Canonical is hiring software engineers focused on virtualization and container technology, from kernel to userspace. You will work on VMM, container tech, and related networking/storage, contributing to Rust, Go or C/C++. The roles support remote work worldwide with occasional team sprints and travel.

You will join projects like RustVMM, LXD, MicroK8s, and Charmed OpenStack, and collaborate across distributed teams to deliver secure, high-performance cloud infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated excellence in academic records at high school and university.
• Undergraduate degree in CS or STEM is required or a compelling alternative path.
• Proven drive and track record of going above and beyond expectations.
• Experience with open source virtualization or container tech.
• Experience working in kernel or low level systems is desirable.
• Professional written and spoken English.
• Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
• Strong interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility and accountability.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Willingness to travel twice a year for company events.

Responsabilités

• Design and specify new features, building consensus on approach.
• Engage with upstream communities and contribute to projects.
• Conduct security analysis and reviews for defence in depth.
• Create and monitor performance benchmarks to optimise products.
• Collaborate proactively with a distributed team.
• Write high quality code to create new features and fix issues.
• Debug issues and review code from peers.
• Discuss ideas and collaborate on robust solutions.
