Overview

Product Manager - Networking at Canonical. Remote within the EMEA region.

We are a pioneer of global distributed collaboration with 1200+ colleagues in 75+ countries and few office-based roles. Teams meet in person several times a year to align on strategy and execution. Our product management team are technologists who deliver products and solutions that shape market demands while elevating open source software. Role focus

This role leads product management and go-to-market in the Smart NIC and ToR switches sector. It requires an analytical storyteller with a strong message, understanding challenges of leveraging Smart NIC and ToR technologies with Linux. Prior software engineering management experience is preferred for those who want to define product strategy and drive engagement. You will engage with the open-source community and industry partners to develop Smart NIC and ToR solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Lead Ubuntu and Ubuntu Core integration as the OS of innovative Smart NIC products
  • Shape the development roadmap for Smart NIC and ToR switches features
  • Engage with the Smart NIC and ToR switches ecosystem and leading customers
  • Enable commercial success and lead product direction
  • Drive go-to-market strategy and execution

Other responsibilities include translating product vision into actionable plans, overseeing the product lifecycle, and collaborating with engineering, design, marketing, and sales to align business goals with market needs.

Location

This role will be based remotely in the EMEA region. You will be expected to be located within this region.

What we are looking for in you
  • Exceptional academic results at high school and university
  • Understanding of Linux and the wider open source software community
  • Passion to write about technologies and the tech landscape
  • A strong work ethic, and personal interests aligned with the open source movement
  • For more senior positions, product management experience in the software industry
  • Deep understanding of hyperscale and enterprise data centre architecture and challenges related to high parallelism workloads (HPC, AI and Big Data)
  • Strong knowledge of network protocols and their implementation and optimization at hardware, kernel, and library levels
  • Understanding of computer architectures: x86, ARM, RISC-V
  • Familiarity with Smart NIC and ToR switches software, standards and market trends, ODMs, silicon providers, cloud service providers
  • Involvement with Linux networking distributions and software such as SONiC, DENT, FRRouting, VyOS, ONL, or Cumulus
  • Practical experience with large-scale network design, implementation and operation
  • Curiosity and continuous learning mindset
  • A strong sense of ownership, problem solving, and ability to innovate
  • Outstanding communication skills in English, both verbal and written
  • Ability to travel internationally up to 4 times a year for company events
Nice-to-have skills
  • Familiarity with specific verticals (e.g., Telco, Finance, Industrial, Automotive)
  • Familiarity with the technology ecosystem including Silicon, IHV, ISV, ODM/OEMs, cloud providers
  • Familiarity with cloud-native technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker containers, and Snaps
  • Familiarity with embedded and connected device technology and ecosystems
