The TGL-ReACH project (ANR-25-CE54-1716) studies the Abavus family of glossaries, which constitute a lexicographical chain parallel to that formed by the Liber glossarum and its descendants. Despite its importance in the field of medieval Latin lexicography, this family has been little studied and has never been fully edited. With few exceptions, recent work in the field, when it devotes a few lines to the early Latin glossaries, generally refers to a state of the art dating back a century (Goetz; Lindsay). The reason for this is simple: very few new studies have been published in this field of study and almost no new editions have been produced to fill the gaps in the documentation. There is therefore an urgent need to provide the community with new analytical tools that meet current needs. The end result will be an open-access research tool, allowing consultation and study of lexicographical material, as well as all the necessary sources and references. The ambition of the TGL-ReACH project is therefore to produce an entirely new study of these glossaries, offering a broader approach to their analysis in context. Highlighting their composition and dissemination makes it possible to better evaluate the working methods of intellectuals and shed light on the functions played by these educational and intellectual tools in the pre-scientific era. The mission is therefore to assist researchers and engineers in the main tasks of executing the TGL-ReACH project throughout the production phase.
The position to be filled is equivalent to a research fellow position within the HTL team. The History of Linguistic Theories Laboratory is a place for developing and disseminating research on the history of concepts of language and languages. Among many cultural areas and chronological periods, medieval Latin is the subject of study for Anne Grondeux and Franck Cinato. They are both editors of glossographic and lexicographic texts, as well as scientific co-editors of the Lexica Latina Medii Aevi LLMA series for Brepols editions. The researcher will work with other members of the research team and will receive specialized training and mentoring and will be integrated into the project network. A personal computer will be made available to the researcher.
