- work environment: The IBMM (UMR 5247 CNRS–University of Montpellier) is an interdisciplinary research institute dedicated to the chemistry and biology of biomolecules. The institute is located within the Balard Chemistry Research Center, one of the largest chemistry research centers in Europe, covering 25,500 m², hosting approximately 800 people, and comprising 2.5 km of laboratory benches.
The Amino Acids, Heterocycles, Peptides and Proteins team has recognized expertise in peptide science, at the interface between chemistry, biology, and health. Its research focuses in particular on the synthesis and design of bioactive peptides, foldamers, protein–peptide interactions, and biomedical applications.
The “Polymers and Peptide-Based Materials” group develops bottom-up approaches to incorporate functional peptides into polymers, hydrogels, nanoparticles, and hybrid materials. These studies focus in particular on health-related biomaterials, including functionalized wound dressings, targeted drug delivery systems, cancer-targeting nanoparticles, and 3D-printable biomimetic hydrogels.
- main mission: The goal of this proposal is to develop new stable biomaterials based on the combination of peptide self-assembly and sol-gel technology. We will produce these materials by the design and synthesis of silylated peptides that comprise self-recognition elements, which can mediate self-assembly. The silylated peptides will hydrolyze and condense to form a covalent bond among the peptides to yield a stable biomaterial. This includes materials that present cell integration, antifouling and antimicrobial motifs. Overall, this research program will combine the expertise of the Subra group in silylated peptides and the Reches group in peptide self-assembly and biomaterials. It would lead to novel robust peptide-based biomaterials that can provide cues to mammalian cells and prevent bacterial adhesion. It would lead to novel robust peptide-based biomaterials that can provide cues to mammalian cells and prevent bacterial adhesion. These novel biomaterials can be used in various applications including medical devices, crop protection and food packaging.
- activities: The post doctoral researcher will design and synthetise, analysise and purify silylated peptides and will synthesise metarials with these building blocks, and ultimately achieving their physciochchemical characterization.
