Job description

About the role

We are looking for a Platform Engineering Manager to lead and grow our platform team while keeping a strong hand on technical direction. You will be responsible for a team of three confirmed / senior platform engineers, and your mission is to make them, and the wider engineering organization, more effective: shipping reliable, secure, and scalable infrastructure, and enabling product teams to move fast through strong self-service capabilities.

This is a player-coach role. You will spend most of your time leading: coaching engineers, setting standards, owning the platform roadmap, and partnering with stakeholders. But you will stay close enough to the technology to review work, pair when it matters, and make sound architectural calls with your team.

You will own reliability, security, performance, and cost across both cloud and on-premise environments, and continuously adapt the platform and the team’s capabilities to evolving technologies.

Your team

You will lead a team of three confirmed / senior platform engineers. They are experienced and autonomous, so your role is less about directing day-to-day execution and more about giving them clarity, removing friction, growing their scope, and raising the overall technical bar.

Our stack

Back-end

Our backend is primarily implemented in TypeScript and in Python (with the framework Django). The database technology is AWS Aurora with Postgres compatibility, for both TypeScript and Django servers. With TypeScript, we use Drizzle as a lightweight ORM. Our coding style in TypeScript is inspired by data-oriented programming. For observability, we use Honeycomb and Sentry.

Front-end

Our web app is a single-page application in Vue.js, written in TypeScript. The front-end application is continuously deployed with Cloudflare Pages, which allows for preview URLs on pull requests. We use Claap to share videos of our work and Sentry to log errors. We also have a mobile application, developed with Vue.js and Capacitor. We have our own components library, based on our design system, called Forma.

Infrastructure

The servers run as containers on Kubernetes; specifically EKS on AWS. Resources outside Kubernetes are managed with Pulumi, with some legacy on CDKTF (we migrate resources from CDKTF to Pulumi when we need to change them). A small number of customers have dedicated infrastructures. We also support on-premise deployments using Kubernetes operators, alongside a deployment toolkit built with Nix. For monitoring the infrastructure, we also use Honeycomb, built on OpenTelemetry.

What we expect from the role

Leading the team

  • Lead, coach, and grow a team of three confirmed / senior platform engineers, supporting their development through regular feedback, career conversations, and technical mentoring

  • Set and raise the technical bar through reviews, pairing, and clear engineering standards

  • Own hiring for the team and shape how it scales over time

  • Build a healthy, autonomous, high-trust environment where senior platform engineers can do their best work

Owning the platform

  • Own the platform roadmap and technical vision, balancing reliability, security, cost, and delivery speed

  • Deliver infrastructure changes through automation while maintaining high availability and a strong engineering experience

  • Enable engineers to focus on product development by delivering self-service capabilities that abstract infrastructure and security complexity

  • Enable on-premise customers to use Fabriq reliably

  • Adapt organizational and platform capabilities to technological evolutions

Working across the org

  • Partner with engineering, product, and security stakeholders to align priorities and facilitate change management

  • Communicate clearly through documentation, technical decisions, and customer-facing relationships

Required experience and skillsLeadershipExperience managing or leading engineers, ideally including senior / confirmed profiles, with a track record of growing people through mentoring and technical guidanceAbility to set the technical bar and hold it, with the maturity that comes from significant production experienceStrong communication skills for documentation writing, stakeholder alignment, and change management facilitationTechnical foundation (you should be credible and hands‑on enough to lead this team)Significant production experience on AWS using container technologies and infrastructure‑as‑code tooling (Terraform / Pulumi)Solid production experience with Kubernetes in on‑premise / private cloud contexts (storage controller management, advanced networking, control plane management)Very strong networking knowledge (all OSI layers, TLS, DNS, DHCP, routing)Linux system knowledge, including containers and troubleshootingProgramming and code architecture skillsTest‑Driven Development practices and a very good understanding of Domain‑Driven DesignProduction experience in release management including CI systems (e.g. GitHub Actions, Jenkins) and CD systems (e.g. ArgoCD, Spinnaker)Production experience in monitoring, alerting, and observability implementation, performance troubleshooting, and reliability engineeringProduction experience in database management (handling migrations, introducing breaking changes in data schemas without downtime, handling backup and restoration)Baseline knowledge of security compliance frameworks (ISO 27001, SOC 2 Type 2)Working with AI agentsAdditional skills and experience we valuePackaging code with Nix and configuring operating systems with NixOS / nix‑darwinWorking with airgapped environments (environments disconnected from the internet)Experience with zero‑trust systemsKnowledge of advanced security compliance frameworks (IGI 901, FedRAMP)Experience with AI agent factories
