A global engineering firm is seeking a Planning Engineer to support project scheduling and planning for major petrochemical projects. This role requires a Bachelor's degree in engineering and at least 10 years of planning experience, including 3–5 years in large projects. Responsibilities
  • Support Senior Planning Engineer in planning, monitoring and controlling project schedule, ensuring alignment with contractual obligations, project objectives and company standards.
  • Assist in preparing and analysing project schedules and progress reports, enabling accurate tracking of project performance.
  • Promote compliance with QAFCO’s Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental, Energy, and Quality management systems, coordinating with other project team members.
  • Project Planning & Scheduling
    • Ensure EPCC contractor develops and maintains comprehensive schedules covering engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover phases, fully compliant with contract requirements.
    • Lead development and approval of baseline schedules, including resource loading and logic networks.
    • Oversee critical path analysis, float management, and schedule optimisation.
    • Coordinate with discipline leads and contractors to align schedules with the overall master schedule.
    • Monitor progress against baseline, identify variances, and recommend recovery or acceleration plans.
    • Implement and manage planning tools (e.g. Primavera P6, MS Project).
  • Progress Monitoring & Reporting
    • Track and report physical progress, earned value, and schedule performance metrics.
    • Validate and review monthly progress reports from contractors.
    • Prepare weekly/monthly reports, dashboards and executive summaries for senior management.
    • Support steering committee presentations, highlighting key risks, achievements and deviations.
    • Maintain accurate, auditable records of planning data.
  • Resource Planning
    • Ensure EPCC contractor produces resource histograms, manpower plans and productivity tracking.
    • Review and validate resource allocations and productivity assumptions.
    • Assist in forecasting impacts of schedule changes, delays and acceleration.
    • Interface with document control to secure timely availability of planning documents.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering and relevant professional certification.
  • Minimum 10 years of planning experience, including 3–5 years on major projects in fertilizer or petrochemical plants.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken); additional languages desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal, organisational and computer literacy skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office.
