Job summary

Upway is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the Ops & Demand engineering team in Paris. You will oversee a group of engineers and two Product Managers, shaping architecture, priorities, and delivery for reconditioning, logistics, inventory, and customer service tooling.

You will partner with Platform and Staff Engineers on architecture, drive engineering strategy, and manage budgets and hiring plans for 2027 and beyond, while ensuring velocity, quality, and stability of the online

Qualifications

• 8+ years in software engineering and 3+ years of people management.
• Proven track record delivering business results in marketplace/e-commerce/logistics.
• Ability to work with non-technical stakeholders and translate requests into options.
• Experience with cycle-based planning and balancing multiple product areas on one roadmap.
• Strong hiring, interviewing, and onboarding skills.
• Hands-on backend experience and ability to review architectures and data models.
• Familiarity with TypeScript/Node.js; Shopify experience is a plus.
• Judgment on speed vs quality; bias for action and long-term thinking.

Responsibilities

• Prioritize building great products, aligning with PMs on what gets built and when.
• Ensure velocity, quality, and risk are owned by the team; maintain store and back-office stability.
• Engage with operations teams to understand bottlenecks and translate them into engineering solutions.
• Lead recruiting, onboarding, coaching, and career development of engineers.
• Partner with Platform team and Staff Engineers on architecture and standards.
• Contribute to engineering leadership through strategy, budgets, and hiring plans for 2027+.
• Provide technical depth for reviews while not acting as main IC.
