Overview

Reporting Line: This position reports to the Vice President of International Medical Affairs

Role purpose: The Medical Lead (Associate Director) is a country-level medical leader responsible for driving the medical strategy and execution of the Blueprint Medicines portfolio in France. This role provides leadership to the in-country medical team, shapes strategic priorities, ensures cross-functional alignment, and supports the launch and lifecycle management of our products. The main medical focus is the launch of avapritinib in indications for systemic mastocytosis (SM) and advancing the pipeline in the same space and in immunology. As the senior medical partner in France you will act as a scientific and strategic expert, translating global/regional medical strategies into impactful local execution. You will foster external collaborations with key stakeholders, provide leadership in evidence generation, and deliver medical insights to support access and patient outcomes.

Reporting to the VP Medical Affairs International and dotted line to the VP & General Manager Region South, the Medical Lead’s mission will be to improve and extend life for as many people with cancer, hematological and allergic disorders as possible.

What will you do
  • Be a key member of the French Leadership Team and the International Medical Affairs Leadership Team
  • Co-own the TRIAD strategy for France with commercial and market access leads, ensuring strong cross-functional alignment and collaboration
  • Set the medical strategy for France; lead the field-based Medical Science (MSL) team, develop and own the Medical Plan, and ensure execution in alignment with regional and global priorities
  • Provide scientific input into the development of local marketing material; accountable for medical approval of all marketing and sales strategies to ensure high medical and ethical standards in compliance with corporate standards and government/industry regulations
  • Support local, regional, and global market access colleagues on price and reimbursement strategies and dossiers, and represent them to reimbursement authorities when needed
  • Provide leadership coaching and guidance to in-country MSLs and medical colleagues
  • Align with the French Senior MSL to ensure MSL performance against goals
  • Foster top-class, dynamic, nimble field teams with local decision-making autonomy while maintaining MSLs as a vital link for Medical Affairs activities in the field
  • Act as the primary scientific and medical leader for the French affiliate in interactions with healthcare professionals, patient associations and other external stakeholders
  • Liaise with Clinical Development, Clinical Operations, and Global Medical Affairs to review and supervise local clinical programs; support investigator/selection management; ensure a strategic approach and development of clinical data to support the appropriate use of the Company’s products
  • Lead local evidence generation activities including company-sponsored studies, investigator-initiated trials (IITs), and real-world evidence initiatives
  • Support and lead advisory boards, expert meetings, and national congress activities; deliver high-quality medical education and scientific exchange with external experts
  • Ensure compliance with local laws, regulations, industry codes and company policies in all activities
  • Support resource and budget planning to meet medical needs and opportunities in alignment with commercial
  • Remain informed of developments within pertinent medical and scientific communities
  • Continuously expand medical and scientific knowledge and maintain awareness of industry and market trends
Minimum qualifications
  • Advanced Clinical Science degree required (Medical Doctor, PharmD, PhD or MSc)
  • 5-10 years experience in medical affairs in the biopharmaceutical industry
  • Demonstrable experience in the development and management of launches
  • Proven leadership and people management experience
  • Effective communicator with fluency in French and English
Additional qualifications
  • Experience in allergy, immunology, hematology, and/or rare diseases strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated success in leading affiliate-level medical strategy and cross-functional projects
  • Strong external stakeholder engagement and established KOL network in France
  • Experience in health authority interactions, HTA/reimbursement processes or patient advocacy collaborations
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, adaptability and ability to operate in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
