A state corrections agency is seeking a Registered Nurse to provide care in correctional facilities across the region. This role includes patient assessment and treatment within various healthcare settings. A degree in nursing is required, with opportunities for career advancement and a signing bonus of $5,000 for new hires. Registered Nurse in the Northern Region. Positions have various job responsibilities and functions within this agency. Depending on the assignment, the RN works in an Inpatient, Outpatient, or Residential Treatment Program in a correctional facility or as part of the Corrections Mental Health Program. The employee may be hired for a specific area and assigned to any or all ambulatory or inpatient settings within the complex or facility.
Registered Nurse P11 is an experienced-level nurse performing a broad range of nursing duties. No specific experience is required.
Registered Nurse 12 functions as a senior worker or as an emergency/clinic nursing services specialist. One year of experience as a RN is required; or, a master’s or bachelor’s degree in nursing and six months of experience as a RN.
Duties of senior level positions may include:
Ambulatory Care, Prison Facility — This is a senior RN position requiring advanced clinical decision making. The senior RN may assess and/or treat correctional prisoners, determine referrals to physicians or other providers, and independently perform the full range of clinical nursing duties in any setting (housing units, camps, transport vehicles, ambulances, etc.). The senior RN initiates and sustains life-saving care and uses considerable independent judgment. The nurse may work as an emergency clinic nurse, inpatient staff nurse, mental health nurse, or ambulatory clinic nurse, assigned to any ambulatory or inpatient settings within the complex or facility.
Positions are located at various correctional facilities throughout the state. You may select your preferred work location and shift availability under the supplemental questions listed on the posting when you apply.
PLEASE NOTE: New Hires for the RN classification will receive a one-time signing bonus of $5,000. The bonus is paid as $1,500 gross pay adjustment on the first paycheck and the remaining $3,500 after completion of one year (2,080 hours) of satisfactory service. If the employee leaves within one year, they must repay the entire bonus.
Registered Nurse P11-12
Possession of a diploma, associate's, bachelor’s, or master’s degree in nursing accepted for licensure by the Michigan Board of Nursing.
Experience

No specific type or amount is required.
Registered Nurse 12
One year of experience equivalent to a Registered Nurse P11.
Alternate Education and Experience
Registered Nurse 12
Possession of a master’s degree in nursing or possession of a bachelor’s degree in nursing and six months of experience equivalent to a Registered Nurse P11 may be substituted for the experience requirement.

New hires to the MDOC and returning employees after more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET), 40 or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on offender contact and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training.
