About the Role

As Head of Legal, ANZ Europe SA, this will be a key leadership role responsible for ensuring robust governance and legal risk management across the organisation. This role supports ANZ Europe SA’s Board, senior management, and business units by providing expert legal counsel, identifying and managing legal risks and enabling strong corporate governance. The Head of Legal role is integral to ANZ Europe SA, supporting its strategic agenda, providing legal and structuring advice on transactional matters, and ensuring alignment with both local and cross-border legal frameworks, in line with ANZ’s commitment to sound governance and risk management.

What will your day look like?
  • Legal Advisory & Strategic Counsel: Provide legal counsel to Directeur General and senior leaders, supporting risk, compliance, and enablement functions. Develop deep understanding of business strategy, operations and customer needs.
  • Transactional Advice: Support banking transactions originating from ANZ Europe SA, including reviewing, negotiating, and drafting documentation under English and French law. Deliver detailed legal and structuring advice and guide new product processes and policy development.
  • Regulatory Environment & Investigations: Monitor and interpret the legal and regulatory landscape, global trends, and associated risks, while supporting the implementation of regulatory changes. Provide expert regulatory advice, assist with compliance matters, and manage remediation activities, investigations, and regulatory enquiries.
  • External Counsel Relationship Management: Manage relationships with panel law firms and oversee appropriate cost control measures in legal engagements.
  • Corporate Governance & Board Support: Prepare meeting papers, agendas, minutes, and resolutions, manage pre and post meeting formalities. Provide secretarial and governance support for board and shareholder meetings.
What will you bring?
  • Extensive experience in corporate legal advisory in financial services, ideally as Directeur Juridique or Responsable Juridique in France.
  • Proven track record in governance, cross-border banking transactional matters, and legal risk management.
  • Strong understanding of French and European legal systems.
  • A strong understanding of Markets or Lending products and documentation within Institutional Banking
  • Bilingual proficiency in French and English as this role will interact with internal stakeholders and local regulators.
  • Familiarity with cross-border legal practices and international regulatory frameworks is preferred.
  • Exposure to legal technology and innovation in legal services is an advantage.
