Department

US & Future Programs Nyx Moon & Future Systems

Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.

Our Future Projects unit is dedicated to expanding and complementing these capabilities by conceptualizing and pre-developing new technologies, products and programs.

We want you as a talented systems engineer to help us in our mission by conceptualizing new technologies and products, characterizing stakeholders and use cases, translating these needs into system architectures, breaking them down into functional, specification and product trees, define and manage requirements and interfaces, and support technical trade-offs with a cross-functional engineering team. You will be part of the Launch Systems Team in the Future Systems Department, and will report to the Principal Engineer of the project and the Future Systems Lead.

Key Responsibilities

In your capacity as a Future Projects System Engineer, your role will be continuously evolving, but day to day your duties will include:

  • Support the commercial and program teams in writing and negotiating proposals for Future Projects.
  • Perform the System Engineering tasks for studies and Future Projects, including, but not limited to the tasks below:
    • Perform trade-offs and technical investigations at system level.
    • Define system-level requirements and ensure flow down and consistency of lower-level requirements.
    • Define the functional breakdown of the system.
    • Contribute to the development plan.
    • Contribute to the coordination of technical tasks of the different specialist engineers within a project, ensuring links between schedule and tasks.
    • Contribute to the co-engineering sessions between the engineering team and potential external partners (setup the agenda, coordinate priorities, take decisions, take the MoM, track the actions).
    • Create and maintain the technical budgets (mass, power, etc.).
    • Support the organization of technical reviews with the customer (in coordination with the team responsible), in terms of datapack definition and delivery, and RIDs management.
What we would love to see from you

In the role of Future projects System Engineer ideally, you will have the following:

  • Advanced degree (MSc) in aerospace engineering, systems engineering, or another related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in the aerospace industry, preferably in a launch system program
  • Experience in early development phase (Phase 0/A/B) project work and systems engineering
  • Good knowledge in programming (Python, Fortran, Matlab...).
  • Fluent in English. German, French and Italian is an asset.

Skills and Behaviors:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizing and prioritization of tasks.
