Job summary

At Sidel, the Field Automation Technician joins the Engineering Portfolio & Innovation team in Octeville-sur-Mer (France) to commission and optimize highly technical equipment for beverage and beer industries. You will work on complex Aseptic machines and travel internationally to support customers and sites.

Following a 4- to 6-month training period in Octeville-sur-Mer, you will perform start-up, commissioning, testing and service activities, diagnose issues via RCA and document interventions

Qualifications

  • 2- or 3-year technical degree (Bac+2/3) in Automation, Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience in assembly, testing, commissioning or technical support on complex machinery is ideal.
  • Strong knowledge of PLCs and HMI systems for motion control; international project exposure is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out start-up, commissioning, testing and service activities on complex equipment.
  • Diagnose issues on site, perform Root Cause Analysis and implement sustainable fixes.
  • Provide technical support to teams and partners during and after warranty periods.
  • Participate in assembly, testing and qualification of prototypes and modifications.
  • Support external qualification of variants at customer sites while achieving expected performance.

Job description

By joining the Engineering Portfolio & Innovation team as a Field Automation Technician, you will become a true explorer of automation solutions, contributing to the commissioning, qualification and optimization of highly technical equipment designed for the beverage and beer industries.

Based at our Octeville-sur-Mer site (France), you will work internationally on complex Aseptic machines. Your expertise will directly contribute to equipment performance, customer satisfaction and Sidel’s innovation journey, particularly through the prototyping and qualification of new solutions.

Following a 4- to 6-month training period in Octeville-sur-Mer, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Carry out start-up, commissioning, testing and service activities on complex equipment, in compliance with technical specifications and safety standards.
  • Diagnose issues encountered on site, conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and implement targeted and sustainable troubleshooting solutions.
  • Provide technical support to teams and partners, both during and after the warranty period, while fostering effective collaboration.
  • Participate in the assembly, testing and internal qualification of prototypes and technical modifications in the workshop.
  • Support the external qualification of variants and improvements directly at customer sites, while ensuring that expected performance levels are achieved.
  • Document your interventions through clear and structured reports, in order to capture knowledge and support continuous improvement.
Your profile:
  • 2- or 3-year technical degree (Bac+2/3) in Automation, Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical qualification.
  • Ideally, previous experience in assembly, testing, commissioning or technical support on complex machinery.
  • Good knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and HMI systems focused on motion control; experience with Siemens, B&R, Elau or Schneider Electric environments would be an advantage.
  • Understanding of industrial communication networks.
  • Fluent in French and English, essential for working in an international environment.
  • Analytical mindset, strong customer-service orientation, good organizational skills, technical curiosity and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.

This position requires full availability for international travel, with more than 200 travel days per year.
