Résumé du poste

LumiSync is seeking an Expert Engineer in Datacom Infrastructure for All Optical Synchronization (CDI) to accelerate integration of the LumiSync Photonic Oscillator into high-speed datacom switches and data center architectures.

You will define architectures, ensure interoperability with SerDes/PHY, and contribute to the product roadmap while collaborating with hyperscalers and switch vendors to enable energy-efficient optical synchronization in next‑gen networks.

Qualifications

  • 5–10 years in datacom infrastructure, data center networking, or timing circuits.
  • Strong experience with electronic timing architectures (VCOs, PLLs, CDR) and synchronization protocols.
  • Experience with SERDES/PHY, switch fabrics, and optical control planes.

Responsabilités

  • Define and refine integration strategies to replace electronic oscillators, retimers, PLLs, and CDR with photonic oscillator in switches and TOR devices.
  • Design architectures where photonic oscillator is the native timing reference across racks, switches, and servers.
  • Analyze SerDes/PHY requirements for interoperability with next-generation ASICs and switch fabrics.
  • Develop timing protocols enabling phase alignment and jitter tolerance without electronic CDR.
  • Evaluate impact on BER, PAM4/NRZ signaling, eye diagrams, and link stability.
  • Assess compatibility with Ethernet/PTP/SyncE/White Rabbit and plan migration to fully optical synchronization.
  • Contribute to product specs for LumiSync master/slave units, including interfaces and packaging.
  • Collaborate with hyperscalers and switch vendors to validate the technology in data-centre environments.

Description du poste

LumiSync is a deeptech spin‑off of CNRS developing the World’s First Photonic Oscillator, a fully photonic on‑chip timing solution designed to replace electronic synchronization chains in next‑generation AI and HPC data centers. Our technology enables sub‑nanosecond synchronization, ultra‑low power operation, and native optical clock generation and distribution, providing a scalable and more efficient alternative to electronic oscillators, retimers, PLLs, and Clock‑Data‑Recovery (CDR) circuits.

We are recruiting an Expert Engineer in Datacom Infrastructure for All Optical Synchronization (CDI) to accelerate the integration of the LumiSync Photonic Oscillator into next gen switches and data center architectures, enabling simpler, faster, and more energy‑efficient networks.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Main Mission :

You will play a key role in the network‑level integration of the LumiSync Photonic Oscillator into high‑speed datacom systems. You will help define and explore the architectural pathways through which our photonic timing solution replaces electronic oscillators, retimers, PLLs, and CDR circuits inside next‑generation electrical/optical switches and Top‑of‑Rack (TOR) devices.

Your expertise in datacom infrastructure will ensure seamless interoperability with emerging switch fabrics, SerDes architectures, and optical control planes for AI Data Center. You will contribute to LumiSync’s product roadmap and help shape the industrial adoption of our photonic synchronization technology.

Tasks & Activities
  • Implement and refine integration strategies for replacing electronic oscillators, retimers, PLLs, and CDR circuits with the LumiSync Photonic Oscillator in switches and TOR devices.
  • Design synchronization architectures where the photonic oscillator becomes the native timing reference across racks, switches, and servers, simplifying network design by removing electronic stages.
  • Analyze SerDes and PHY requirements to ensure seamless interoperability between the photonic clock and next‑generation ASICs and switch fabrics.
  • Develop optical and hybrid timing protocols enabling phase alignment and jitter tolerance without electronic CDR.
  • Evaluate the impact of photonic synchronization on BER performance, PAM4/NRZ signaling, jitter tolerance, eye diagram and overall link stability.
  • Evaluate interoperability with existing timing standards (Ethernet, PTP, SyncE, White Rabbit) and define migration paths toward fully optical synchronization.
  • Contribute to product specifications for LumiSync master/slave units, including interfaces, packaging, and integration constraints.
  • Collaborate with hyperscalers and switch vendors to validate the photonic oscillator in DC like environments.
Candidate Profile

Education & Experience

  • MSc or PhD in telecommunications, network engineering, photonics, RF/microwave, or related fields.
  • 5–10 years experience in datacom infrastructure, data center networking, switches, SerDes/PHY, synchronization systems, or timing circuits.
  • Strong experience with electronic oscillators, PLLs, retimers, CDR circuits, or high‑speed link design and related synchronization protocols.

Technical skills:

You ideally need to have :

  • Deep understanding of datacom synchronization architectures (TORs, switches, SerDes) and high‑speed optical/electrical links.
  • Strong knowledge of electronic timing architectures (VCOs, PLLs, CDR, retimers) and their limitations at high speeds.
  • Expertise in phase noise, jitter, frequency stability, and clock distribution.
  • Experience with BER testing, PAM4/NRZ modulation, FEC, eye diagrams, and signal integrity analysis.
  • Familiarity with optical devices, PICs, CW lasers, fiber links, and optical modulation protocols.
  • Experience with FPGA‑based testing, RF instrumentation, or photonic characterization.
  • Initiative and autonomy.
  • Scientific rigor and experimental discipline.
  • Teamwork and cross‑disciplinary collaboration.
  • Dynamism and adaptability.
  • Confidentiality and responsibility.
