Job summary

CDG Maui seeks an experienced estimator to build accurate, comprehensive estimates for high-end custom homes in Maui. You will read plans, review scopes with architects and PMs, and ensure bids reflect true costs with contingencies.

You will maintain cost databases, manage trade bids, and prepare budgets that guide project decisions and profitability. Join a dedicated team focused on precision and growth.

• Experience with Buildertrend or similar construction software

Responsibilities

• Do quantity takeoffs and scope reviews; build estimates in the template
• Carry General Conditions with overhead and fee
• Clarify scope with architect and PM; list assumptions and exclusions
• Flag risks and long-lead items; price or call them out
• Get and compare bids from trades; seek multiple bids per category
• Price design changes and change orders quickly for PM requests
• Deliver a clean estimate at contract that becomes the job budget
• Build and maintain a historical cost database from closed jobs

Job description

CDG Maui is a design-build construction company building high-end custom homes on Maui. We plan carefully, build it right, and own the outcome. We’re growing and building a team where everyone knows their role and has the support to do it well.

You’ll build accurate, complete estimates so we price work right, protect margin and avoid surprises during the build. Your estimate becomes the job budget our PMs run the project on. You’ll report to our Senior PM / Team Lead and work closely with our PMs, architect and field team.

This is beautiful, high-end custom work on a team that plans before it builds, with a clear role, clear metrics and a leader invested in your growth. When you apply, tell us about an estimate you built that held up against actual cost, and how you made sure nothing was missed.

• Do quantity takeoffs and scope reviews; build every estimate in our existing template


• Carry General Conditions as their own line and apply our standard overhead and fee


• Clarify scope with the architect and PM; list assumptions, allowances and exclusions on every estimate


• Flag risks, open design items and long-lead materials, and price them in or call them out


• Get and compare trade and supplier bids, with more than one bid per cost category where possible


• Price design changes and change orders quickly when the PM requests them


• Hand the PM a clean estimate at contract that becomes the job budget in Buildertrend


• Build and keep a historical cost database from closed jobs and use it on new estimates


• 3+ years estimating high-end custom residential or comparable construction


• Estimates that held up against actual costs, with examples to show it


• Reads plans and specs; catches missing scope before it becomes a change order


• Knows construction costs: labor, materials, freight and lead times


• Accurate and thorough; meets due dates


• Strong Excel; comfortable with takeoff and construction software (Buildertrend preferred)


• Explains the numbers clearly


• Legally authorized to work in the United States (I-9 verification required at hire)


• Nice to have: Maui or Hawaii construction cost experience


• Nice to have: field or project management experience


• Nice to have: construction management degree
