Position Overview

Localisation: Paris (France)

Diffusely is looking for an Engineering Manager to join our 12 person Fashion team working on AutoRetouch. In this hands-on leadership role, you’ll oversee two engineers and shape the technical vision, architecture and reliability of the backend infrastructure that powers our image creation and enhancement AI solution. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate high fashion standards into robust technical solutions, driving innovation in fashion imagery.

What you'll do
  • Team Leadership and Development: Lead 2 engineers, ensuring effective onboarding, continuous training, and performance management. Foster a culture of innovation and collaboration.

  • Hands-On System Ownership (Backend): Take full technical ownership of our imaging and media-processing systems from file I/O and metadata handling to the orchestration layer and API design.>

  • Code Quality: Promote and ensure the production of clean, efficient, and well-tested code. Mentor team members in adhering to best coding practices.

  • Image and File Format Expertise: Maintain and evolve core logic for color management, metadata, and layered file formats. Ensure all our image transformations are accurate, standards-compliant and follow industry best practices.

  • Ownership and Management: Own critical components (APIs, pipelines, features), ensuring reliability and integrity. Provide technical support to teams and deliver quick wins without disrupting key projects.

  • Delivery & Quality: Ensure timely project delivery with consistent, high-quality outcomes, while maintaining a sustainable workload through effective prioritization, delegation, and time management.

  • Workflow and API Development: Contribute to the design and operation of our event-driven workflow engine that coordinates Machine learning inference, traditional Computer Vision algorithms and human workloads.

  • Product Creation: Work hand-in-hand with the product team to translate tech potentials into impactful, market-ready offerings.

Qualifications/Skills
  • Minimum of 5+ years in engineering and 1+ years in management.

  • Expert Python, and hands-on knowledge of Linux (system, networking).

  • Hands-on experience manipulating images and video (e.g. segmentation, transforms, masking, compositing).

  • Proficiency with image libraries such as OpenCV, Pillow, pyvips or similar

  • Experience with SQL databases and queue-based processing.

  • Good understanding of industry practices: architectures, protocols, containers, security.

  • Experience designing, developing, and operating large-scale cloud systems (we are on AWS) with a strong DevOps or platform engineering mindset and end-to-end ownership.

  • Practical knowledge on proper source code management, documentation, test pipelines, and CI/CD.

  • Team player with proactive approach and high sensibility for quality.

  • English skills on a working proficiency level.

Nice to have
  • Background or strong interest in photography, design, imaging or video production.
  • Experience with color spaces, ICC profiles, metadata standards, compression, and layered file formats (e.g. Photoshop).
  • Experience with, or willingness to learn, other languages such as Java, or Go.
