Description du poste

DCEO Chief Engineer, Data Center Engineering Operations

Job ID: 10468621 | Amazon Data Services France SAS

Amazon Web Services is looking for a rigorous and experienced Chief Engineer to join our Data Center Engineering Operations (DCEO) team. This group is committed to maintaining the critical physical infrastructure that supports Amazon Web Services, ensuring 100% uptime of mechanical, electrical, and fire protection/life safety systems, while delivering world‑class customer service to the teams operating within the data centers.

AWS Infrastructure Services (AIS) is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we are the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers as well as all the servers, storage equipment, networks, power systems, and cooling systems that ensure our customers have continuous access to the innovations they rely on. We work on the most complex problems, with thousands of variables impacting our operations, and we are looking for talent who want to help us tackle these challenges.

You will join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, critical systems specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other essential roles. You will collaborate with colleagues across AWS to maintain the highest safety standards while delivering seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. You will thrive in an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to see them through.

As a DCEO Chief Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire protection/life safety equipment within the data center operates at optimal efficiency. This involves both planned preventive maintenance of equipment, daily corrective work, and response to urgent incidents. You will serve as the single technical point of reference for all facility operations, reporting to the site Facility Manager and interacting with Engineering Operations Technicians (EOT) as well as third‑party contractors. Data center equipment supporting critical servers must maintain an uptime rate greater than 99.999%.

As a DCEO Chief Engineer, you will manage low‑to‑medium impact projects from design through delivery. These projects involve a significant amount of independent work as well as collaboration with cross‑functional support teams including engineering, automation, operations, and finance, in both local and international environments. You will create and track key milestones, obtain and monitor quotes for all necessary costs, and document project outcomes for future implementation at other facilities. The goal is to drive innovation and resilience while reducing operational costs.

One of the most rewarding aspects of this role is leading, training, and mentoring Engineering Operations Technicians in their mission of troubleshooting and operating electrical and mechanical equipment. This includes diesel backup generators, switchboards, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), PDUs, air‑handling units (AHUs), centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, chemical treatment systems, pumps, motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and building management systems (BMS).

Key job responsibilities
  • Oversee daily operations and maintenance of the data center's mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Work independently with a limited level of direct supervision.
  • Act as the escalation point for all data center facility‑related issues, escalating to the Facility Manager as needed.
  • Perform Root Cause Analysis of equipment failures.
  • Troubleshoot and report facility‑level and server‑level events within internal SLA timelines.
  • Create and deploy new standard practices for EOT Technicians, Chief Engineers, and contractor teams.
  • Provide training and mentoring to Engineering Operations Technicians.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all safety procedures by contractors and Amazon personnel.
  • Use the internal CMMS to manage and track facility workflows.
  • Communicate complex technical information to a non‑technical audience.
  • Manage infrastructure improvement projects from design to delivery, tracking milestones, costs, and deliverables.
