About The Position

Mercator Ocean International is recruiting an International Programme Coordinator for Ocean Prediction to support the OceanPredict programme and its interaction with the UN Ocean Decade's Ocean Prediction Decade Collaborative Center (OceanPrediction DCC).

Reporting to Mercator Ocean International's Scientific Directorate, you will contribute to strengthening international cooperation in operational oceanography and digital ocean prediction systems. You will play a key role in preparing the OceanPredict 2029 international conference and in enhancing Mercator Ocean International's visibility and leadership within the global ocean prediction community.

Responsibilities

Vous Serez Chargé·e De Coordonner Et De Soutenir La Mise En Œuvre Du Programme OceanPredict Ainsi Que Ses Interactions Avec L’OceanPrediction DCC. À Ce Titre, Vous Serez Notamment Responsable De

• Contribuer à la stratégie et à la coordination du programme international OceanPredict : élaboration et suivi des plans stratégiques, plans d'action et budgets du programme ; préparation des rapports d'activité et suivi de la mise en œuvre des actions définies avec les instances de gouvernance.
• Animer les communautés scientifiques et techniques impliquées : coordination et accompagnement des groupes de travail internationaux ; organisation des réunions, ateliers, écoles d'été et événements scientifiques favorisant les échanges de bonnes pratiques et le partage de connaissances (OceanPredict 2029)
• Renforcer les collaborations entre OceanPredict, l'OceanPrediction DCC et les initiatives internationales de la Décennie des Nations Unies pour les sciences océaniques : développement des interactions avec les programmes et projets internationaux partenaires ; coordination des actions conjointes et renforcement des liens entre les communautés régionales et internationales de prévision océanique.
• Soutenir la coordination scientifique et technique de l'OceanPrediction DCC et favoriser le développement d'une communauté internationale de la prévision océanique : intégration et diffusion des outils, standards et ressources développés par l'OceanPrediction DCC au sein de la communauté OceanPredict ; veille scientifique et valorisation des travaux ; activités de communication (newsletters, rapports, publications scientifiques) ; animation du site web

Beyond these responsibilities, you may also contribute, when needed, to other development activities carried out by Mercator Ocean International.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the strategy and coordination of the international OceanPredict programme: develop and monitor strategic plans, implementation plans and programme budgets; prepare activity reports and oversee the implementation of actions agreed by the programme governance bodies.
• Facilitate and support the scientific and technical communities involved in ocean prediction: coordinate and support international working groups; organise meetings, workshops, summer schools and scientific events promoting knowledge sharing and best practices, including OceanPredict 2029.
• Strengthen collaboration between OceanPredict, the OceanPrediction DCC and international initiatives of the UN Ocean Decade: develop interactions with partner programmes and projects; coordinate joint actions and reinforce connections between regional and international ocean prediction communities.
• Support the scientific and technical coordination of the OceanPrediction DCC and foster the development of a global ocean prediction community: promote the integration and dissemination of tools, standards and resources developed by the OceanPrediction DCC within the OceanPredict community; conduct scientific monitoring activities and support the dissemination of scientific achievements through newsletters, reports, scientific publications and website management.

Assets For Success

You hold an engineering degree and/or a PhD in oceanography or a related discipline. You have at least 10 years of experience in oceanography and/or operational oceanography and are recognised for your expertise in ocean prediction, including ocean modelling, data assimilation, artificial intelligence and operational applications. Experience in managing or coordinating international scientific programmes would be highly valued.

We are looking for a candidate with an excellent knowledge of the OceanPredict programme and the international operational oceanography ecosystem, including the OceanPrediction DCC, the UN Ocean Decade, the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC-UNESCO), the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), and related initiatives. Your proven experience in coordinating international scientific programmes is supported by strong organisational skills and scientific rigour. You have demonstrated abilities in facilitating scientific communities and networks, as well as excellent writing and communication skills. Excellent written and spoken English is essential.
