Job Overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled communication system engineer to join our team and play a critical role in defining the end‑to‑end architecture of our next generation European LEO satellite communications system (IRIS²). In this position, you’ll work closely with internal engineers, architects, product and business development managers, and external suppliers leading the development of system components. You will write technical requirements, perform system trade studies, define the concept of operations, and maintain the technical baseline, including all the interface definitions. You will work closely with the program and the Integration & Test team to ensure that the system is developed and is fit for purpose. This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact within an organization that values growth, teamwork, and professional development.

Who You Are:
  • You’re a communication system engineer who’s architected and followed the deployment and refinement of at least one large multi‑user, bi‑directional wireless communications system. This doesn’t have to be a satellite‑based system.
  • You’ve worked with or for comms system component suppliers, leading design reviews from either the supplier or customer side.
  • You have a deep understanding and experience in the system development, integration, verification, and validation process.
  • Possess 5–10 years of industry work experience.
What You’ll Do:
  • Develop adequate tools for assessing waveform performances, link budget and synchronization techniques
  • Responsible for physical layer protocols definition for the different air interfaces at user link, feeder link, and ISL. Definition of waveform and its performances, perform trade‑offs on the waveform parameters definition and assess performances.
  • Contribute to the definition of user link and feeder link waveforms and related performances (link budget) in collaboration with payload and ground teams.
  • Contribute to the definition of inter‑satellite link waveform and related performances (link budget) in collaboration with payload team.
  • Define the functional composition of the whole communications system– which subsystems perform various tasks and processes.
  • Define and implement processes for making and tracking key architectural decisions and changes.
  • Own the system level requirements and work with subsystem leads to ensure their requirements reflect the system needs.
  • Maintain the technical baseline and lead the Integrated Product Team initiatives.
  • Define CONOPS to ensure that the system functional flows are clearly defined.
  • Maintain the key sub‑system level interface documentation and associated schema, in particular the air interface Interface Requirement Definition that you will lead.
  • Work with subsystem suppliers to ensure their designs meet the system level needs.
What You’ll Need:

As well as systems engineering experience, you should have deep expertise and prior experience working in the following specific areas:

  • Design of waveforms and optimisation of waveform parameters, satellite‑based would be a plus.
  • Definition, implementation and simulation of receiver algorithms (synchronization, demodulation, decoding, …). Implementation and optimization on hardware component would be a plus.
  • Knowledge of 3GPP waveform and 5G NTN releases.
  • Understanding of 3GPP (5G) end to end system architecture.
  • If possible background of Layer 2 (MAC, RLC, PDCP, SDAP, RRC) in a 3GPP or 3GPP like system and capability to interface with RAN/access engineer on the definition of L1/L2 mechanisms (scheduler, link adaptation, power control algorithms, handover management).
  • Take ownership of a practical lab‑based setup to deploy and test adaptation of above standard protocols.
  • Knowledge about NTN features would be appreciated.
  • You also should have experience of using various systems engineering software tools for requirements management and model‑based systems engineering.
Where You’ll Work:
  • Ideally based in one of the Eutelsat Group head quarter offices within the European Union, Paris, France or Torino, Italy.
  • Flexible in‑office and from‑home work.
