Co-Founder CTO — Architecting the “Universal Layer” for African Payments (Remote)

Why this role matters

Africa doesn’t need more wallets. African cross-border payments are structurally broken: fees of 4–8% and settlement delays of 2–5 days. This “infrastructure tax” suffocates trade and limits financial sovereignty.

Legacy global payment systems were never designed for African economies. The result: high costs, dependency on external intermediaries, and systemic delays.

At the same time, stablecoin settlement rails are rewriting how global value moves. This creates a rare, time‑sensitive opportunity: Africa must become an architect in this new era — not just a consumer.

We are building infrastructure that allows African institutions to move value on their own terms.

We enable banks and regulated institutions to connect to modern rails — stablecoins, institutional OTC desks, and instant fiat corridors — without complexity, custody risk, or regulatory shortcuts.

The stack we are building

Universal Adapter Layer

A standardized interface for stablecoins, OTC partners, and regional instant payment systems.

Deterministic Orchestration

Stateless workflows coordinating cross-border value movement end-to-end.

Forensic Auditability

An evidence store designed for central bank scrutiny, using immutable hash-chaining and full traceability.

Your role

Architect + Builder

You will own the technical DNA of WANOPAY from Day 0.

• Define and evolve the core non‑custodial architecture
• Build the first production system hands‑on
• Implement security, observability, reliability, and testing discipline
• Make foundational infrastructure and stack decisions
• Scale engineering as we move pilot → production → multi‑corridor
• Work directly with banks, regulators, and partners to deliver compliance‑grade engineering

You design long‑term, optimize for resilience, and build with regulators in mind from day one.

The profile we are looking for

You likely come from a fintech or infrastructure environment such as Stripe, Wise, Wave, Adyen, Plaid, Checkout.com, or similar.

• Deep expertise in backend / system architecture (Node, Go, or equivalent)
• Strong experience with APIs, distributed systems, and secure transaction flows
• Exposure to regulated or compliance‑driven environments (payments, KYC / AML, banking)
• Ability to balance speed with correctness and auditability
• Strong communication skills and a founder‑level ownership mindset
