Leads a crew of transportation maintenance technicians and equipment operators performing skilled transportation maintenance activities. Reports to a maintenance section District Maintenance Administrator and assists in administration of the maintenance Bridge Maintenance. Work requires responding to emergency notification on an as needed basis. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Essential Duties
- Assists during accidents and emergency weather situations to sand bridges and roads and put up warning signs and organize response crews.
- Assists in administration of the maintenance section.
- Estimates and gathers materials and equipment necessary to complete assignments.
- Operates light and heavy equipment.
- Maintains records on materials and equipment used and employee time sheets.
- Performs some maintenance and repair on equipment and trains crew members on the use of equipment.
- Serves as a lead worker by scheduling daily work assignments; serving as a resource for complex questions and troubleshooting of problems; presenting operational updates to the supervisor; providing input on team members' career conversations; and approving leave requests to ensure operational coverage.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
High School Grad or Equivalent in general education.
Experience:
5 years experience in roadway maintenance related work. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Licenses and Certifications
- Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
- Must have a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with an "N" Endorsement or have obtained an "N" Endorsement within 90 calendar days from date of employment.

- Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and above 100 degrees for more than one hour

- Required to wear protective gear - respirator, hard hat, or other device
- Medium work: Lift up to 50 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs
- Climbing - ascending/descending ladders, stairs, scaffoldings, ramps, etc.
- Balancing - walking, standing, crouching on various surfaces without falling
- Stooping - bending body downward and forward by bending spine at waist
- Crouching - bending body downward and forward by bending leg(s) and spine
- Walking - moving on foot to accomplish tasks; long distance/from one work site to another .
