Mistral is seeking an Applied Scientist / Research Engineer Intern to contribute to cutting‑edge AI model development across text, image and speech modalities. Based in Paris or London, you will collaborate with science, engineering and product teams to deliver practical AI solutions for demanding clients.

You will run training and deployment tasks on GPU clusters, generate data, build tooling, and drive research projects with a client‑facing, cross‑functional team.

Qualifications

• Fluent English and the ability to communicate with technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Proficiency in Python programming and clean coding practices.
• Ability to work independently with large codebases and take ownership.

Responsabilités

• Run pre‑training, post‑training and deploy models on GPU clusters.
• Troubleshoot issues including OOM errors and NCCL communication.
• Generate and curate data for model development and evaluation.
• Build tools and frameworks for data generation, training, evaluation and deployment.
• Collaborate with internal and client teams on AI use cases including agents and retrieval‑augmented generation pipelines.
• Manage research project workflows and communications with client teams.
• Ensure models meet or exceed performance expectations.

The Role

As an Applied Scientist / Research Engineer Intern on the Mistral AI team, you will help drive new research and work closely with clients on complex technical challenges. The team is responsible for developing advanced models spanning different modalities such as text, image, and speech. Your work will have direct impact as you collaborate cross‑functionally with science, engineering, and product teams to deliver practical AI solutions. This role is based in our Paris or London offices.

What You Will Do

• Run pre‑training, post‑training, and deploy advanced models on GPU clusters
• Troubleshoot technical issues, including OOM errors and NCCL communication
• Generate and curate data for all stages of model development and evaluation
• Build tools and frameworks for data generation, model training, evaluation, and deployment
• Collaborate with internal and external teams to apply AI to diverse use cases, including agent and retrieval‑augmented generation pipelines
• Manage communications and research project workflows with client teams
• Ensure models regularly meet or exceed performance expectations

What We're Looking For

• Fluent English and clear communication skills with technical and non‑technical audiences
• Expertise in PyTorch or JAX
• Confidence working independently with large codebases
• Proficient in writing clean, efficient, and reliable Python code
• Initiative to take ownership and deliver without heavy guidance

• Demonstrated success through academic, professional, or personal technical projects
• Experience or strong interest in areas like agents, multi‑modality, robotics, diffusion models, or time‑series analysis
