Job summary

Mistral is seeking Applied Scientists and Research Engineers to advance optimisation and operational research in large language model applications. You will post-train SOTA models to solve optimisation problems and apply them to diverse use cases, collaborating with science, engineering and product teams to deliver high-impact AI solutions.

Ideal candidates have strong OR backgrounds, experience with solvers (Gurobi/CPLEX/OR-Tools) and ML tooling, and can work independently on large codebases

Qualifications

• Fluent English with ability to explain complex ideas clearly.
• Strong background in optimization and operational research.
• Experience training or fine-tuning large language models.
• Hands-on experience with AI solvers and modelling languages.
• Proficiency in Python and modern ML frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Run pre-training and post-training of SOTA models on large GPU clusters.
• Develop datasets and benchmarks for optimisation tasks (LP, MILP, CP).
• Use solvers as verifiers to create reward signals for RL.
• Build tools and frameworks for data generation, training, and deployment.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on complex use cases.
• Lead research projects and communicate results to client teams.
