Aerospace engineers design, develop, and test aircraft, spacecraft, and defense systems. Their responsibilities include creating technical designs, conducting simulations and tests, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and troubleshooting issues. They also collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, document their work, and may oversee manufacturing and maintenance processes.

Core responsibilities

• Design and development: Conceptualize and design aerospace vehicles and systems, including structures, propulsion, and guidance systems. Use CAD software to create detailed blueprints and models.
• Analysis and simulation: Conduct analysis (e.g., aerodynamics, structural, thermal) and simulations to validate designs and ensure they meet performance requirements.
• Testing and validation: Develop and run prototypes, and perform tests such as wind tunnel, environmental, and stress tests to ensure safety and functionality.
• Compliance and regulation: Ensure all designs and processes comply with safety, environmental, and government regulations, working with agencies like the FAA or EASA.
• Troubleshooting and maintenance: Investigate and resolve design and performance issues that arise during development, testing, or in-service operation.
• Collaboration and project management: Work with other engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, software) and project managers to set budgets, timelines, and specifications.
