Yliopisto Espoossa etsii tohtorikoulutettavaa kokeelliseen tiheysfysiikkaan, erityisesti kahden ulottuvuuden korreloituneisiin materiaaleihin. Työntekijä tulee työskentelemään kvanttimateriaalitutkimuksessa ja osallistuu nanofabrikaatioon ja matalalämpötilakokeisiin. Tarjolla on täysimääräinen rahoitus ja mahdollisuus ammatilliseen kehitykseen.
Aalto University conducts research at the interface of science and art, technology and economy, aiming to create a sustainable future and address world challenges. The university community includes students, professors and staff from diverse backgrounds.
Teknillisen fysiikan laitos conducts pioneering research in atomic-scale physics, focusing on materials physics, quantum technologies, soft and living matter, and advanced energy sciences. The department trains future experts in data and technology, invention, and collaboration with industry and society.
The Atomic Scale Physics research group seeks a doctoral student (tohtoriksiopiskelija) to pursue a PhD in experimental condensed matter physics, with emphasis on two-dimensional correlated materials.
Student will work on quantum materials research using nanofabrication methods and low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy (STM).
PhD student goals are to study emergent electronic phenomena in two-dimensional materials using gate-tunable STM. Materials include various van der Waals single-layer systems that may exhibit Mott insulating, ferromagnetic, multiferroic, or superconducting properties.
Responsibilities include:
Selected candidate will apply for doctoral studies in the Faculty of Science at Aalto University. See the information and admission criteria for the Doctoral Programme in Science at Aalto University.
We offer a fully funded doctoral research project under the supervision of Dr. Ziying Wang in the Atomic Scale Physics group led by Professor Peter Liljeroth. The group currently includes 3 academy researchers, 1 postdoc and 5 PhD students. The research focuses on electronic phenomena in quantum materials characterized by STM.
The PhD position starts with an initial two-year contract, with a possible extension for another two years after a mid-term review. Annual workload for research and teaching staff at Aalto University is 1612 hours. Salary follows the Finnish university salary system, starting at approximately 2815 €/month (gross), with increases as the PhD student progresses.
