Job description

The world still has coverage blind spots. You could help eliminate them at Skylo.

Skylo has pioneered a standards-based approach to satellite connectivity. We connect smartphones and IoT devices directly to satellites. No special hardware, no entirely new networks. Just billions of existing devices, suddenly reachable anywhere on Earth. We're not building toward this future. We're already in it.

Our direct-to-device service is live on millions of activated devices across five continents, covering more than 72 million square kilometers, in partnership with leading satellite operators, mobile network operators, Tier-1 chipset makers, and OEMs worldwide. And we're just getting started.

At the heart of it all is Skylo's commercial NTN vRAN: a 3GPP standards-based, cloud-native platform that seamlessly bridges terrestrial and satellite networks. It's the infrastructure that makes true anywhere, anytime connectivity possible.

When you join Skylo, you'll work at the intersection of three markets reshaping how the world stays connected: mass-market consumer devices, automotive, and industrial IoT. Enabling people outdoors and critical workflows in the world's most remote places.

This is a rare chance to work on technology that matters, at a company that's already proving it works

This role is based in Espoo, Finland, one of Skylo's core engineering hubs and fastest-growing sites. You'll work onsite three days a week as part of a team that's scaling quickly.

How You Will Impact Skylo

Skylo is seeking a Staff Wireless Systems Engineer to join our CTO group. This technical leadership role is opened for a subject matter expert who can bridge the gap between traditional RAN architecture and design, and modern machine learning (ML) techniques. You will drive the design of an intelligent RAN, redefining how signal processing and protocol layers (L1/L2/L3) operate in high-latency and dynamic satellite environments.

What You’ll Do
  • Architect AI-Enhanced RAN: Lead the design and implementation of ML models for higher performance NTN RAN, focusing on intelligent signal processing, and optimization across L2/L3 protocol layers.
  • Neural Signal Processing: Develop and validate AI-enhanced PHY layer (L1) algorithms, including neural-network-based channel estimation, signal detection, and interference mitigation.
  • Data Strategy for AI-Infused RAN: Develop data generation framework across the RAN stack for training and validation, leveraging synthetic methods, sandbox platforms, and live data resources.
  • Performance Innovation: Optimize network efficiency, reliability, and latency by applying ML to manage the unique challenges of NR-NTN.
  • Technical Strategy & IP: Influence Skylo’s technical roadmap for AI/ML-driven RAN optimization, generating high-value patents to protect our unique approach to satellite connectivity.
  • Ecosystem Leadership: Collaborate with chipset and OEM partners to define certification roadmaps for AI-enabled features at the device and network level.
  • Quality & Mentorship: Review complex system designs, define rigorous test plans for AI models, and ensure high-quality deliverables across our global sites.
Sound Like You? What You Bring:
  • Experience: 8+ years of experience in wireless systems engineering, with a significant emphasis on L1/L2/L3 system design and RAN architecture.
  • AI/ML Expertise: Proven hands-on experience in model training/fine-tuning, and applying ML to wireless communications (e.g., deep learning for PHY/MAC optimization).
  • Technical Mastery: Deep understanding of 3GPP NR-NTN, LTE, and NB-IoT protocols.
  • Research & Innovation: Demonstrated ability to conduct in-depth technical research and translate theoretical AI concepts into production-ready wireless solutions.
  • Education: PhD or Master’s degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or a related field focusing on wireless communication, signal processing or Machine Learning.
  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written skills, with a track record of leading cross-functional collaboration between engineering and product teams.
What We Offer

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to help build and run the world's first commercial, live direct-to-device satellite network. You'll work alongside a world-class team spanning software, hardware, chipsets, telecom, satellite, and network virtualization, some of the most sought-after expertise in the industry. And you'll do it inside a culture that's open, transparent, and inclusive, shaped by the best of Silicon Valley, Nordic, and South Asian ways of working.

  • Fair & transparent compensation, we'll share salary details with you in your first interview
  • Occupational Healthcare, Health and Life Insurance
  • E-passi including, wellness, culture, lunch and commuting benefit
  • Phone & Internet allowance
  • Individual learning & development budget for further personal and professional development
