Software Engineer

Location: Helsinki, FI

We are looking for a Software Engineer, Monitoring Platforms & MLOps to join our Data Operations team at Vaisala headquarters in Vantaa, Finland. This is an ideal opportunity for an engineer who enjoys building practical software systems, integrating data and platforms, and creating tools that help people make better operational decisions.

Vaisala is a global leader in measurement instruments and intelligence helping industries, nations, people, and the planet to thrive. From predicting hurricanes to optimizing renewable energy production, our technology is used where it matters the most - from data centers, windfarms and laboratories to airports, the Arctic and even the surface of Mars. For a second year running, Vaisala got recognized in TIME Magazine's World's Best Companies in Sustainable Growth 2026 study. Our team of close to 2,500 experts and 62 nationalities around the world is committed to taking every measure for the planet. Driven by our shared purpose, curiosity, and pioneering spirit, we stay ahead and make a difference. At Vaisala, you don't have to fit in to belong.

At Vaisala, you will contribute to technologies and services that support reliable environmental measurements and operational decision-making. In this role, you will:

  • Work at the heart of Vaisala's strategic initiatives, shaping remote-service solutions across our product portfolio and future offering
  • Solve meaningful software challenges involving telemetry, monitoring platforms, machine learning integration, and predictive maintenance for distributed environmental measurement assets
  • Build robust tools that make complex system behavior easier to understand, enable earlier issue detection, and support better operational decisions
  • Contribute across the solution lifecycle from defining capabilities to real-world deployment resulting in a tangible impact on reliability, performance, and customer value
What's your role?

As a Software Engineer, you will design, build, and maintain production software and platform integrations that support monitoring, troubleshooting, predictive maintenance, and operational decision-making.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and maintain monitoring platform integrations, services, and applications that support operational teams in understanding asset health, investigating issues, and making informed decisions
  • Build software capabilities that turn predictive maintenance concepts, exception classification logic, and machine learning outputs into practical operational workflows
  • Integrate asset, telemetry, operational and weather-related data sources into scalable monitoring views, dashboards, APIs, tools, and user-facing applications
  • Work across the application stack, including backend services, APIs, data models, authentication, authorization, frontend workflows, and platform integrations
  • Collaborate with data science, backend engineering, data architecture, service business, and operational stakeholders to translate business and technical needs into maintainable software solutions
  • Support production readiness and long-term maintainability through strong engineering practices, including testing, documentation, code review, observability, reliability, security, performance, and continuous improvement of development standards
What will you bring?
  • Solid experience designing, building, testing, and maintaining production software, ideally using Python, or comparable modern engineering technologies
  • Experience building or integrating applications, APIs, services, dashboards, data-driven tools, or operational platforms, including the ability to translate API responses, telemetry streams, or model outputs into clear domain models and maintainable application logic
  • Familiarity with monitoring, observability, alerting, telemetry, or operational workflows; experience with tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Nagios or similar platforms would be beneficial
  • Interest in MLOps, predictive maintenance, anomaly detection, machine learning integration, or software systems that operationalize data science outputs; hands-on experience with model monitoring, ML pipelines, or experiment-to-production workflows would be a plus
  • Ability to work across backend integration, data models, authentication, authorization, secure integration patterns, user-facing workflows, and production software security practices
  • A disciplined engineering approach to testing, code quality, documentation, maintainability, accessibility, performance, security, observability, peer review, and continuous improvement, combined with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders in English
  • Additional experience with AWS Cloud, on-prem infrastructure and hypervisors, near-real-time data technologies, environmental measurement systems, operational technology, industrial telemetry, or distributed asset fleets would be valuable
  • Curiosity and a growth mindset to explore, learn, and apply AI tools in your daily work. We expect everyone at Vaisala to actively discover how AI can enhance their work
