Job summary

DayOne is building its flagship hyperscale data center campus in Lahti, leveraging Finland's cool climate for free cooling and advanced data center systems. You will lead shift teams, oversee operation reviews, and drive improvements across BMS, HV systems, and reliability.

The role requires a degree in engineering or IT, 3+ years in data centers, and strong leadership, communication skills, and English proficiency.

Qualifications

• Degree in Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.
• More than 3 years of experience in data center operations or similar environments.
• Familiarity with UPS, generators, chillers and related infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of power distribution, UPS, cooling, and fire protection systems.
• Fault diagnosis and emergency response capabilities.
• Strong leadership and team management skills.

Responsibilities

• Team Leadership: organize and supervise shift teams for safe, reliable operations.
• Equipment and Operational Review: verify inspections, oversee data accuracy, manage handovers.
• Systems Analysis: analyze usage across BMS and data center systems; identify improvements.
• Training and Procedure Compliance: monitor training, ensure SOP/EOP adherence.
• Incident Management: analyze anomalies, document fixes, share lessons, drive continuous improvement.

About the Role

DayOne is building its flagship hyperscale data center campus in Lahti, on a former industrial site in Kiveriö. The campus is designed to use Finland's naturally cool climate for free cooling, with air-cooled chillers that remove the need for freshwater cooling. Join the Lahti team early and help shape how a campus of this scale is built, commissioned, and run.

Key Responsibilities

• Team Leadership. Organizing and supervising the work of shift teams to support safe and reliable operations. Ensuring smooth coordination and execution of daily operational activities.
• Equipment and Operational Review. Reviewing facility equipment inspections completed by shift teams. Verifying operational and maintenance data for accuracy. Overseeing shift handover information, including event, fault, alarm, capacity, and redundancy reviews.
• Systems Analysis. Analyzing usage and interface issues within BMS, building automation, high-voltage monitoring, inspection PDA, and data center management systems. Identifying improvement opportunities related to BMS and low-voltage control systems.
• Training and Procedure Compliance. Coordinating and monitoring training activities according to established plans. Evaluating training outcomes and ensuring compliance with SOPs and EOPs. Supporting the development of operational readiness and technical competency.
• Incident Management. Recording and analyzing abnormal operating conditions and incident reports. Identifying root causes, documenting solutions, and sharing lessons learned across teams. Supporting the continuous improvement of emergency response practices.

We operate in a 24/7 environment. This is not a shift role, but occasional out-of-hours response and coverage will be required.

Requirements

Technical skills. Degree in Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field. More than 3 years of experience in data center operations or similar operations and maintenance environments. Familiarity with the maintenance and operation of UPS systems, generators, chiller units, and related infrastructure. Strong understanding of power distribution systems, including high- and low-voltage systems, UPS, cooling, and fire protection systems. Fault diagnosis and emergency response capabilities. Strong leadership and team management skills.

Soft skills. Effective and clear communication skills and the ability to work with a multidisciplinary team. Proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with high integrity and a collaborative working style. Ability to work in a fast-paced operational environment. Proficiency in English, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Finnish is considered a benefit.
