Job description

Permanent Role | Nuclear SMR Programme | Finland | Systems Engineering

As Senior V&V Engineer, you'll define and embed the verification and validation framework across the full architecture of a next-generation Small Modular Reactor (SMR) plant, designed to deliver safe, scalable, carbon-free heat for district heating and industrial use. Joining the Architecture and Integration group during the conceptual and design phases, you'll take ownership of how the plant is verified and validated from concept through to commissioning; leading design reviews, building traceability from requirements to evidence, and helping shape the regulatory readiness of the programme from the ground up. This is a hands-on technical role rather than a people-management position, ideal for someone who wants deep, cross-disciplinary influence over how a new reactor design is proven safe.

Responsibilities
  • Define and apply the plant's overall V&V strategy, including system-level plans, acceptance criteria, and verification methods (analysis, inspection, testing, simulation, demonstration)
  • Build and maintain end-to-end traceability between safety/system requirements, design solutions, and validation evidence
  • Lead and coordinate design reviews at system and plant level; architecture, interfaces, specifications, and MBSE models
  • Review engineering documentation for verifiability and testability, and facilitate multidisciplinary review sessions
  • Plan and oversee verification activities across all lifecycle phases, including safety-classified systems
  • Maintain V&V evidence to support internal decision-making and regulatory engagement
  • Track and resolve non-conformities, driving root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Support early identification of technical and regulatory risk
Skills and Experience
  • Proven experience in Verification & Validation within safety-critical or heavily regulated industries
  • Strong grounding in systems engineering and the V-model, requirements management, and design verification across multiple systems
Location

Based in Finland, this role sits within a fast-growing nuclear technology programme at the forefront of Europe's push for carbon-free industrial heat. Finland regularly ranks among the world's best countries for quality of life, work-life balance, and education, with relocation support and an established international community for those moving from abroad.

Why apply

This is a rare opportunity to shape the V&V standards for a new nuclear plant design from its earliest stages, with genuine influence over how the programme approaches safety and regulatory readiness for years to come.
