Job summary

Role Overview

Senior Software Engineer, DataFlow (Android) – focus on core Android components responsible for storage and movement of data between Oura’s mobile app and cloud.

Team and Environment

Team size: 6‑10. Hybrid – occasional office presence in Helsinki. This is a platform team, primarily internal‑facing; UI work is rare.

Key Responsibilities

• Write Kotlin code for Android applications.
• Improve app‑cloud data sync, focusing on reliability, latency, performance, and observability.
• Enhance app‑side data storage: performance, data access API design, data migration systems.
• Implement automation and code‑generation layers.
• Support a variety of platform‑domain work, including data management.
• Participate in design and implementation work, proactively identifying improvements at feature and architecture level.

Technologies

• Android: Kotlin, C++ libraries, RealmDB (migrating away), SQLite.
• Backend: Python, Rust, AWS.
• Misc: TypeScript.

Required Qualifications

• Experience with mobile development; proficiency in Kotlin and modern Android app architecture.
• Previous experience solving challenging technical problems.
• Broad knowledge of software fundamentals, testing, concurrency, databases, and system design.
• Strong ownership ability: design solutions, drive implementation, deliver results with limited guidance.
• Mentoring skill to increase developer productivity.
• High‑quality code production quickly, with or without AI assistance.

Preferred (But Not Required) Experience

• Knowledge of distributed systems, data syncing mechanisms, data consistency challenges.
• Experience with HTTP API design; potential to work on both backend APIs and Android integration.
• Experience with JNI and C/C++ code.
• Performance‑oriented coding, application profiling.
• If interested, knowledge of iOS and potential to contribute on both Android and iOS.
