Job summary

VTT in Espoo, Finland, seeks a Research Scientist or Senior Scientist to advance soft materials modelling. You will develop physics-based computational models for bio-based materials, focusing on molecular dynamics and, depending on your expertise, electronic structure, continuum-scale methods, or combinations of these approaches.

Qualifications

• PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science or closely related field.
• Minimum 5 years in materials modelling with molecular simulation methods and codes.
• Experience in scientific programming and numerical simulations (Python, MATLAB, Julia, C/C++).
• Experience in polymer modelling and high-performance computing.
• Advantage: electronic structure methods, multiscale modelling or ML.
• Excellent written and spoken English for international collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and validate computational models for soft materials across relevant scales.
• Apply MD and potentially electronic structure, multiscale modelling or FEM to polymer/composites.
• Analyse computational/experimental data and collaborate with ML researchers.
• Build efficient HPC workflows and integrate with data-driven approaches.
• Contribute to publications, reports, and customer communication.
• Lead projects and participate in proposal preparation for funded initiatives.
