Job summary

Sandvik is seeking a Senior Powertrain Engineer for the Tampere site to lead the design and development of powertrain systems for underground drills. You will contribute to vehicle powertrain concepts, including conventional diesel, diesel-electric or fully electric solutions, and support BEV initiatives.

The role focuses on mechanical engineering within powertrain topics while offering opportunities to engage in BEV technologies and modular platform development.

Qualifications

  • M.Sc. or B.Sc. in Engineering with several years of experience in powertrain design and cooling systems.
  • Experience with mobile machinery design and commissioning is an advantage.
  • Fluent English; Finnish language skills are advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Develop powertrain components, modules and subsystems for underground drills.
  • Support technology selection, system architecture decisions and long-term platform development.
  • Validate and commission new components and functionalities with suppliers.
  • Collaborate with driveline suppliers and cross-functional teams to ensure cost-effective solutions.
  • Occasional travel and readiness to work in underground mining environments.

Our Underground Drilling Division Power Systems & BEV team is currently looking for a proactive Senior Powertrain Engineer. The role is full-time, permanent and located in Tampere (Myllypuro), Finland.

Sandvik Mining and Construction Oy’s Tampere site is a global technology and manufacturing center for Underground Drilling equipment.

Your mission

As a Senior Powertrain Engineer, you are part of the engineering team, developing a variety of powertrain components, modules and subsystems for the underground drills’ product family. You act as an expert in powertrain systems, supporting technology selection, system architecture decisions and long-term platform development. You are responsible for implementing and participating in validation of new components and functionalities while applying modularity, commonality and value engineering principles throughout the product development lifecycle.

Your main areas of responsibility include vehicle powertrain systems and related thermal management solutions. The powertrain can be conventional diesel-powered, diesel-electric or fully electric. While your role is primarily focused on mechanical engineering topics within powertrain systems, it also offers opportunities to work with battery-electric vehicle (BEV) technologies and components. Depending on your experience and interests, the role can be shaped to leverage your specific expertise and strengths.

You collaborate closely with driveline component suppliers and cross-functional teams across engineering, testing, manufacturing, product support and spare parts to ensure robust and cost-effective solutions throughout the product lifecycle. You can plan and lead commissioning and validation activities in collaboration with our component suppliers.

You are willing to travel occasionally and ready to work in an underground mining environment when required.

Your background and what we find important

We are looking for a person who has a suitable technical education (M.Sc. or B.Sc. in Engineering) and several years of experience in the design and development of powertrain and cooling systems, driveline components and related subsystems. You are a team player who commits to Sandvik core values and can also work independently, proactively and with a long-term mindset. As an advantage we consider your previous experience in mobile machinery design, powertrain systems and commissioning. Experience with Siemens NX and Teamcenter Active Workspace is considered an advantage. Fluent spoken and written English is expected, and Finnish language skill is considered as an advantage.
