Job summary

Smartly is seeking an experienced software engineer to own end-to-end vertical slices of our platform from Helsinki in a hybrid setup.

You will design and document services, own API contracts, and collaborate with UX, product, infrastructure, and support to meet customer needs. Join a global team delivering scalable web apps with React, Node.js, and TypeScript, and help shape our Creative Engineering Group's offerings.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience building robust, distributed web applications.
• Experience building client applications using React.
• Backend development with Node.js and TypeScript; openness to other technologies.
• Strong spoken and written English communication.

Job description

Smartly proudly houses Rocket, the team responsible for building out the Asset Library. Our customers rely on our creative production tooling to generate and manage tens of millions of advertising creatives, and your future team will be placed in the center of all of this effort.

We are agnostic about technology and always aim to choose the best tools for the job. On the front-end, React, TypeScript and our own shared UI library. On the backend side of things, our favored stack is Node.js in combination with TypeScript usually coupled with PostgreSQL and/or Kafka. Our service runs on Node.js orchestrated by Kubernetes. We also integrate with some BI tools (Snowflake, Redash, Grafana) to analyze the performance and usage of our services. We use pnpm, webpack and GitHub Actions for our build and deployment pipeline.

We will focus heavily on bringing innovations to the Creative Group while reacting to customer demand and feedback.

What You Will Do

• Have end-to-end ownership of vertical slices of our platform.
• Documenting our services and communicating our offerings to other teams within Smartly.
• Defining, designing, and owning API contracts made for internal and external stakeholders.
• Focus on well-designed and well-executed software, quality matters.
• Be a core contributor to our Creative Engineering Group's ambitions and product offering.
• Work with our stakeholders - be them UX, product, infrastructure, or our support function - to ensure we meet customers where they are.
• Apply and enhance your soft skills by working closely with our customers and your peers.

What We Are Looking For

• Minimum of 7 years of experience in building robust, complex, and distributed web applications.
• Experience in building and maintaining complex client applications using React.
• Experience in backend development using modern technologies. We use NodeJS and Typescript, but we are open to hearing more about technologies used by you.
• Ambition and eagerness to excel and commitment to continuous growth.
• Excellent spoken and written communication skills in English.
• Ability to effectively work with different stakeholders, ensuring smooth collaboration and project success.
• Motivation for solving customers' problems and delivering value to customers at a fast pace
• Ability to work in a hybrid capacity from our Helsinki office 3 days a week (more if you like).
