Job summary

Elisa is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join the Data Modeling and Delivery team and lead data model and pipeline development on cloud platforms. The role emphasizes translating business needs into reliable data solutions and shaping AI-enabled development practices.

The position offers a hybrid work model with office days in Finland and occasional travel to the Helsinki HQ, working across multiple business domains and collaborating with stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Strong experience with modern data engineering or data warehouse modeling.
• Proficiency in Python/SQL; other languages are a plus.
• Practical development experience on major cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, Azure).
• Ability to implement IaC (Terraform) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Knowledge of GCP Cloud Composer (Airflow).
• Familiarity with data processing frameworks (Dataflow, Datastream).
• Interest in AI-assisted development and AI tooling in data engineering.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and own data models and pipelines in BigQuery and Cloud Composer from requirements to production.
• Make design decisions and set team standards for modeling, testing, and documentation.

The Role

We are looking for a passionate Senior Data Engineer to join our Data Modeling and Delivery team on our cloudification journey. In this role, you will design and implement data models, data pipelines, and other development items that support multiple business areas. This role requires strong data integration skills, solid coding experience, and the ability to turn business needs into reliable data solutions. For that matter, the role will require not only knowledge of the technical side, but also to develop a good understanding of the business processes powering Elisa’s operations.

What You'll Do:

• Design, build and own data models and pipelines in BigQuery and Cloud Composer (Airflow) from requirements to production.
• Make technical design decisions and help set team standards for modeling, testing, code quality and documentation.
• Work directly with business stakeholders, translating their needs into reliable data solutions and building deep knowledge of one or more business domains.
• Continuously improve and optimize data operations, review code and work in collaboration with other engineers.
• Help shape how we use AI in data engineering: explore AI-assisted development, share what works with the team, and help turn it into shared practices.

What We Expect from You

• Strong experience with modern data engineering or data warehouse modeling, and development, with the ability to build reliable, production-ready data solutions.
• Proficiency in Python/SQL; knowledge of other programming languages is a plus.
• Practical development experience in some major cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure). Google Cloud Platform (GCP) experience is a big advantage, as this is our main platform.
• Ability to build infrastructure and components using best practices (e.g., IaC with Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, git).
• Knowledge of GCP Cloud Composer (Apache Airflow).
• Familiarity with data processing frameworks like GCP Dataflow (Apache Beam), Datastream.
• Interest in AI-assisted development, with a practical mindset for using AI tools to work smarter and identifying where they can genuinely add value in our development practices.
• Hands-on experience with AI coding assistants or LLM-based tooling (e.g. Github Copilot, Gemini) in a data engineering context is considered a plus.
• Write maintainable and well-tested code.
• Good communication skills and fluency in English.
• Previous experience in team mentorship or supervisory roles is also considered an asset.
