Huawei Helsinki Sports Science Laboratory is seeking a Senior Algorithm Engineer to join us. You will work with a diverse range of data, including physiology, human motion, biomechanics, cardiovascular, metabolic, etc. Our advanced facility is equipped with cutting‑edge tools like wearable sensors, indirect calorimetry systems, electrocardiograms, and respiratory gas analyzers, enabling precise monitoring of physiological and biomechanical responses during exercise and other activities. Responsibilities
  • Design and develop cutting‑edge algorithms: Create and implement sophisticated algorithms and models to achieve industry‑leading accuracy, efficiency, and performance for Huawei’s wearable and health product lines, driving innovation in health monitoring and fitness tracking.
  • Validate and optimize performance: Conduct rigorous validation of algorithms and systems to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and user‑friendliness of Huawei Sports and Health products, applying best practices in real‑time data processing and analysis. Enhance algorithmic designs to improve their adaptability, scalability, and integration with Huawei’s ecosystem of wearable devices, ensuring seamless performance in diverse environments and use cases.
  • Explore and assess emerging technologies: Lead research efforts to explore cutting‑edge technologies and assess their feasibility in the context of Huawei’s product lines. Integrate innovative solutions to maintain leadership in wearable and health technology. Spearhead and coordinate research projects that strengthen Huawei’s leadership in the wearable and health technology sectors, keeping the company at the forefront of innovation.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams: Work closely with teams in physiology, biomechanics, sensor technology, data science, to drive the strategic development of advanced algorithms, shaping the roadmap for Huawei Health products and ensuring continuous improvement and innovation.
Requirements
  • Background in data science, applied mathematics, or related fields (preferred). Experience in designing wearables algorithms utilizing inertial sensors in the biomechanics domain is highly valued.
  • Experience with algorithm development for wearable devices: Proficiency in designing and optimizing algorithms for real‑time data processing in wearable technology, particularly in areas such as motion tracking, energy expenditure, and personalized fitness coaching.
  • Expertise in human motion analysis and sensor fusion: Proficient in applying advanced wearable inertial sensors for comprehensive motion analysis, working knowledge of GNSS data is a plus. Strong experience with Kalman filtering and sensor fusion. In‑depth knowledge of biomechanical data interpretation across various sports, enabling accurate movement tracking and performance analysis.
  • Proficiency in machine learning and data analysis: Strong experience with data analysis skills, machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch), and familiarity with AI applications in health and sports science, enabling predictive and personalized health solutions.
  • Passion for fitness and wearable technology: Enthusiastic about the potential of wearable technology to revolutionize personalized and preventive health solutions. A genuine interest in fitness training, digital health, and wellness is essential.
  • Strong communication skills: Fluent in English (required), ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively in English, both in writing and verbally. Ability to collaborate across teams, document processes effectively, and manage priority and changes. Experience working in cross‑functional teams with engineers, scientists, and business stakeholders is key.
  • Problem‑solving, innovation, and technical acumen: A creative and analytical mindset, with the ability to resolve technical challenges in algorithm development and product implementation and develop novel solutions that push the boundaries of wearable and health technologies.
Contract Type

This is a full‑time consultant position; the consultant shall be employed by Huawei’s supplier.
