Job summary

Finnair is seeking a Safety Manager within Technical Operations to coordinate SMS and SEMS activities, assess risks, and ensure mitigation actions are implemented in line with EASA, IOSA, and internal governance.

The role emphasizes evidence-based safety decisions, strong communication with stakeholders, and the ability to facilitate risk assessments, with no line management responsibility.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree from a relevant field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in aviation, aircraft maintenance, continuing airworthiness, safety, compliance, quality or another safety‑critical operational environment.
  • Strong understanding of aviation Safety Management Systems, safety risk management, safety assurance and safety promotion.
  • Good understanding of EASA regulatory frameworks relevant to Technical Operations, such as Part-CAMO, Part-145, Part-21 and Part-147.
  • Ability to facilitate structured risk assessments.
  • Analytical capability to interpret safety reports, findings, trends, KPIs and weak signals, and convert them into practical actions.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to influence without direct line authority.
  • High integrity, sound judgment and ability to apply Just Culture principles.
  • Good documentation, reporting and presentation skills.
  • Digital mindset and ability to use modern reporting, analytics, workflow and AI-enabled tools to improve safety management efficiency.
  • Strong English and adequate Finnish language skills, both written and spoken.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, assess, monitor, document and promote safety and security risks.
  • Facilitate safety risk assessments and management of change reviews.
  • Ensure mitigation actions are implemented, followed up, and effective.
  • Maintain alignment with EASA, IOSA, and internal safety governance requirements.
  • Facilitate organization’s safety management meetings.
  • Monitor safety reports, findings, audits, risk assessments, and corrective actions.
  • Promote strong investigation standards, root cause analysis, CAPA follow-up, Just Culture, reporting culture and proactive safety learning.
  • Analyze safety data to identify trends, weak signals, and recurring risk patterns.
  • Act as Business Security Officer for Technical Operations.

Finnair Technical Operations unit's task is to execute Finnair's flight operations safely, economically and in a reliable manner. Finnair Technical Operations is responsible for the airworthiness of the Finnair fleet. The key objectives of Technical Operations are safety, reliable flight operations and cost-efficient maintenance processes.

Finnair Technical Operations is now looking for a SAFETY MANAGER.

The Safety Manager acts as the key focal point for Technical Operations SMS coordination, supporting nominated persons, operational leaders, and safety forums with risk assessments, action follow-up, trend monitoring, safety communication, and cooperation with corporate security. The role strengthens evidence-based safety decision-making and follow-through of safety improvement actions, but it does not include line management responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Previous experience with safety reporting systems, occurrence investigation, audit findings, corrective actions, risk assessments or Management of Change.
  • Training and experience in aviation safety management, risk management, occurrence investigation, auditing or applicable EASA regulatory frameworks.
  • Previous experience working with cross-functional operational stakeholders, external maintenance providers, auditors or competent authorities.
