The Automation Technology and Mechanical Engineering Unit (ATME) at Tampere University invites applications for master thesis positions in hydraulics and automation. Zonal hydraulics research group, part of IHA – Innovative Hydraulics and Automation Lab at the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, is looking for 1–2 Master thesis workers. The group focuses on innovative design, modelling and testing of systems for working hydraulics and hybrid/electric powertrain topologies for various applications, such as heavy-duty mobile machines and stationary industrial cases. Research themes cover both basic and applied research.

The research group is seeking a Master thesis worker in mechatronics and/or mechanical engineering.

Job description

Depending on the experience and interests of the successful candidate the work will be focused on the following tasks:

  • modeling of electro-hydraulic system
  • analyzing efficiency, controllability and feasibility for realization

The research topics as a Master thesis require either:

  1. Excellent modeling and simulation skills of hydraulic systems
  2. Expertise in hydraulic components and systems design
  3. Modeling & Simulation skills in Matlab/Simulink or Amesim seen as advantage
  4. Basic skills in CAD software

Comprehension (or interest) in combustion engines is appreciated.

Successful candidates need to be students of Finnish universities (Tampere University, Aalto University, etc.). Master thesis is expected to be completed within 6 months.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or in a related field is required. Also, the applicant should express motivation in the motivation letter accompanying the application.

Candidate will be hired by an industrial partner and located inside IHA lab with extensive collaboration with industry; future employment in a leading company.

Successful candidates must apply and have valid rights to study for a Master degree in any Finnish university.

Candidate(s) will be hired by Tampere University with close cooperation with an industrial partner, and located inside IHA lab with extensive collaboration with industry.

The position will be for a fixed-term period of 6 months. The starting date is 1 November 2025 or as mutually agreed. A trial period of three (3) months applies to all new employees.

The salary will be based on the job demand level and the employee’s personal performance according to the Finnish University Salary System. The position is placed on job demand level 1, with additional performance-based salary linked to study credits.

Toimintamme kattaa sekä perustutkimuksen että soveltavan tutkimuksen.

Tutkimusryhmä etsii nyt diplomityöntekijää mekatroniikan ja/tai konetekniikan alalta.

Tehtävänkuvaus

Valitun henkilön kokemuksen ja kiinnostuksen kohteiden mukaan työ keskittyy seuraaviin tehtäviin:

  • Sähköhydraulisen järjestelmän mallinnus
  • Järjestelmän tehokkuuden, säädettävyyden ja toteuttamiskelpoisuuden analysointi

Diplomityön tutkimusaihe edellyttää vähintään yhtä seuraavista:

  1. Erinomaisia hydraulijärjestelmän mallinnus- ja simulointitaitoja
  2. Asiantuntemusta hydraulikomponenttien ja -järjestelmien suunnittelusta
  3. Mallinnus- ja simulointitaitoja Matlab/Simulink- tai Amesim-ohjelmistoilla
  4. Perustaitoja CAD-ohjelmistoista

Ymmärrys (tai kiinnostus) polttomohtoreihin katsotaan eduksi.
