Job description
Overview

We are now looking for a Project Researcher or Postdoctoral Researcher to join a multidisciplinary team led by Dr. Feixiong Chen in the Faculty of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine, University of Oulu, in the Disease Network research unit to develop novel electrochemical biosensing or microfluidic chip for healthcare diagnostics. Feixiong holds a doctoral degree in Life Engineering and the position of Academy Research Fellow (2023-2027) to develop point of care technology.

About the job

We are looking for ambitious, highly motivated candidates with a strong background in the field of electrochemical biosensor, particularly in single nanoparticles electrochemistry, wearable electrochemical sensor and microelectrode fabrication and sensing assay. The main duties of the selected applicant will be:

  • As a postdoctoral or project researcher, you will be responsible for the experimental design and implementation of advanced sensing mechanism and application.
  • In the AoF project, your responsibilities include lab management, paper writing, and proposal preparation.
  • You will also be part of a multidisciplinary research group of nano-diagnostics, involving microlfuidic, nanotechnology, electrochemical biosensor and bio-nano interaction.

Who are you?

In order to succeed and enjoy the position, we expect from you:

  • Project Researcher: You must hold a Master’s degree in Chemistry, Life Engineering, and Bio-nano Science, or a related field. The Master’s degree must be completed before the start of the employment.
  • Postdoctoral Researcher: You must hold a Doctoral degree in Analytical chemistry/physical chemistry/electrochemistry. The doctoral degree must have been completed by the closing date for applications. The degree must have been obtained no more than 10 years ago.
  • Ability for independent scientific work
  • Fluent in written and spoken English, with good communication and teamwork skills
  • Experience in academic writing and presentation skills

We also appreciate

  • Experience in single nanoparticle electrochemistry, nanoimpact electrochemistry, wearable electronic biosensor, and microelectrode fabricated sensor.
Salary

The position is fixed-term for one year as of 01.11.2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The project researcher position: The salary will be based on level 6 of the demand level chart for other experts and support staff of Finnish universities. The starting gross salary will be approximately 2500 € per month (before taxes).

The postdoctoral position: The salary will be based on level 5 of the demand level chart for teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. The starting gross salary will be approximately 3500 € per month (before taxes).

A trial period of 6 months applies to the position.
