Job Overview

As a project engineer, you will work on a variety of research, development, and innovation projects (RDI) at Turku University of Applied Sciences (Turun AMK), related to dual‑use technologies and the defense industry. You will actively participate in project teams, with the main task of implementing projects to achieve their objectives. You may also contribute your expertise to project preparations and publications. Your responsibilities will focus particularly on the upcoming Military Metaverse for Multi‑Domain Operations (MilVerse4MDO) project.

What do we expect from you?

• Strong programming skills in at least Python and C#. Experience with Unity3D is a plus.
• Interest in the defense industry, especially in defense technologies and experimenting with new technologies.
• Familiarity with developing backend systems and protocols, as well as AI‑assisted rapid prototyping. Ability to assess when AI use in development is appropriate from both results and security perspectives.
• Experience in software production and application development as part of a team. Familiarity with version control (git). Experience in project activities is an advantage.
• Ability to improvise technically. Since we conduct experimental and prototype research, you should be able to provide informed estimates on the most sensible directions for development based on your expertise.
• Good teamwork and reporting skills, initiative, prioritization ability from the perspective of results and added value, and readiness to collaborate with companies and other stakeholders. Comfortable with phone communication.
• Experience and skills in implementing integrations, API connections, managing Linux edge computing devices, and handling sensor data streams are valued. Our large project requires diverse expertise from sensor data streams, edge computing, to AI model development and data processing.
• Ability to work in Finnish and English.
• A suitable higher education degree is required.
