Job summary

Thor is seeking a PROJECT DIRECTOR to lead a 12-month initial hyperscale data center contract in Finland. The role demands ownership of delivery, guiding a senior team and ensuring safety, quality and schedule alignment across sites in Oulu and Kajaani.

The successful candidate will bring 10–15 years of project management experience, with at least 9+ years in leadership, and a proven track record in HV substations, construction and client leadership on complex data center programs.

Qualifications

• 10–15 years of progressive project management experience, with at least 9+ years in a senior or leadership role.
• Strong leadership in delivering hyperscale data centre projects.
• Experience with safety, quality, procurement, and planning standards.

Responsibilities

• Overall accountability for successful project delivery alongside the Project Manager.
• Lead and oversee Project Managers, Commercial Managers, Lead Engineers and project teams.
• Monitor programme, resources, commercial performance and project risks, implementing changes where required.
• Ensure compliance with safety, quality, procurement, planning and operational standards.
• Review contracts, scope, milestones and risk registers, ensuring no scope gaps prior to subcontractor appointment.
• Report project performance, risks and resource requirements to senior operational leadership.
• Act as senior client contact and escalation point throughout the project lifecycle.
• Lead early discussions around design, programme and project delivery.
• Support BD activities and develop opportunities with existing and new clients.
• Manage key commercial discussions including variations, EOTs, escalations and programme changes.
• Manage client expectations around cost, programme, lead times and project deliverables.
• Provide regular project updates covering performance, commercial position, risks and resources.
• Work with operational leadership to ensure appropriate labour and project resources.
• Participate in senior operational, commercial and executive reviews to discuss project risks, pipeline, resources and future opportunities.

Looking to step up and take full ownership of major project delivery?

Partnered with a global industry-leading EPC contractor who are ramping up their team particularly in Finland. Their proven track record of delivering quality on data centre projects they continue to win exciting hyperscale projects in a competitive market.

You will take ownership of operational performance and project delivery, ensuring projects are executed efficiently while supporting continued business growth and wider strategic goals. The position requires an experienced leader with a strong background in HV substation engineering, project execution and team leadership, alongside a solid understanding of the European market and data centre sector.

Site presence can be flexible, project based in Oulu and Kajaani.
