Job summary

S-ryhmä hakee Sokos.fi-verkkokaupan pääarkkitehtoriksi. Tehtävässä vastuulla on teknisen suunnittelun, arkkitehtuurin ja laadun varmistaminen yhdessä tiimien kanssa. Työskentelet Helsingissä päätoimisesti, mutta osittain etätyö on mahdollista.

Ensimmäinen painopiste on skaalautuvien, turvallisten ja käytettävien ratkaisujen luominen sekä AI-avusteisen kehityksen edistäminen. Vaatimuksena on vahva ohjelmistokehityksen tausta ja erinomainen englannin kielen suullinen sekä kirjallinen viestintä.

Qualifications

• Pitkä kokemus ohjelmistokehityksessä ja tekninen johtajuus, vähintään 10 vuotta.
• Kyky määrittää ongelmia ja löytää kestäviä ratkaisuja monialaisessa tiimissä.
• Vahva analyyttinen problematiikka ja koodin laatu sekä ylläpidettävyys.

Responsibilities

• Johtaa teknistä arkkitehtuuria ja ratkaisuja Sokos.fi -verkkokaupan alueella.
• Mentroida kehittäjiä ja vahvistaa tiimin käytäntöjä sekä arkkitehtuurin yhteistä vastuuta.
• Tehdä tiivistä yhteistyötä liiketoiminnan, suunnittelun ja teknologian kanssa sekä toteuttaa tuotteita osana monialaisia tiimejä.

Shape the architecture and engineering quality of a well-recognized and respected webstore. We are looking for a Principal Engineer to develop and shape the future path of the Sokos.fi webstore. You’ll help build reliable, secure, and scalable solutions that delight our users, together with our passionate team of professionals. Our primary workplace is our Helsinki office, where we meet our colleagues regularly. When your duties allow, you can also work flexibly remotely for part of the week.

About the job

Your work will directly support the continued success of one of Finland’s most recognized webstores. You will operate within a cross-competence product team responsible for delivering high-quality digital services and continuously improving customer experience. As a Principal Engineer, you will play a key role in both discovery and delivery. You contribute to shaping solutions already at the problem-definition stage, working closely with analysts, designers, and business stakeholders to frame challenges, evaluate alternatives, and assess feasibility before implementation.

You will take part in building team ownership of the technology platform and ensuring that solutions are reliable, secure, scalable, and aligned with S Group’s architectural and information security principles. The role combines hands‑on development with high‑level technical leadership. You can take full technical ownership of complex areas, especially where no ready‑made models exist.

In your day‑to‑day work, you lead from the frontlines: guiding technical decision‑making, contributing to product‑level discussions, mentoring engineers, and developing team practices. You collaborate closely with the Tech Lead of Sokos.fi, sharing responsibility for the technical architecture across your domain.

You will work in a cross‑functional team with experts from business, design, and technology. Together, you champion customer‑centricity, team autonomy, and data‑informed decision‑making. Your contribution enables product squads to succeed by bringing senior expertise, clarity, and a supportive mindset to everyday collaboration.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a highly experienced, product‑minded software professional with a strong technical background and typically over 10 years of relevant experience. You are comfortable working independently, taking broad technical ownership, and mentoring others.

You thrive in early‑stage problem exploration and enjoy collaborating across disciplines. You help shape problems before solving them, ensuring that chosen solutions are meaningful, feasible, and sustainable.

Success in this role requires strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, as well as the ability to manage complex technical systems. You have deep expertise in software engineering, code quality, and maintainability, and you recognize that quality is achieved through collaboration, peer reviews, and shared responsibility.

You are motivated to drive AI‑assisted development and are curious about how new technologies can improve engineering practices. You are also willing to understand business goals and customer insight, and to connect these with technical solutions. We expect familiarity with a modern technology stack such as AWS, React, Node.js, and relational databases. More importantly, you can evaluate and select technologies that best serve the product and long‑term architecture. In this role, engineering is not only about delivering solutions but about treating development as a product discipline.

Fluent communication skills in English are required.
