Job summary

Qualifications

  • PhD in Condensed Matter Physics or Materials Science is required.
  • Hands-on experience with 2D heterostructures is essential.
  • Knowledge of 2D material transfer techniques and cleanroom-based microfabrication is required.
  • Experience with low-temperature STM is strongly preferred.
  • A strong publication record and good communication skills are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct fundamental experimental research in nanoscience and quantum materials.
  • Fabricate and assemble 2D van der Waals heterostructures.
  • Perform structural and electronic characterization of samples.
  • Carry out ultrahigh vacuum cryogenic STM measurements.
  • Operate and maintain advanced scanning probe microscopy systems.
  • Analyze data and publish results.
  • Collaborate within a high-performance research environment.
  • Present findings at international conferences.

Job description

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to conduct experimental research in nanoscience and quantum materials using Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM) and advanced fabrication of two-dimensional van der Waals heterostructures. The successful candidate will join the Synthetic Quantum Materials Group at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland.

The position will begin on November 1, 2026, for a duration of 1 year with the possibility of extension up to 3 years. The position is fixed-term.

Responsibilities
