A leading research university in Finland is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to focus on nanoscience and quantum materials. This role involves conducting experiments using advanced microscopy techniques and contributing to groundbreaking research. An ideal candidate holds a Ph.D. and has experience in low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy. The position offers a competitive salary between €3600 and €4200 per month. Applications are open until October 31, 2025.
The JYU is a nationally and internationally significant research university and an expert on education that focuses on human and natural sciences.
We are seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Researcher who will focus on research in nanoscience and quantum materials with the use of Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM) and molecular beam epitaxy (MBE), van der Waals stacking. The researcher will join the synthetic quantum materials Group at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland. The position will start on October 1, 2025, or as soon as possible after that for a maximum of two years.
As part of our research team, you will contribute to research in nanostructured quantum materials including topological matter, 2D atomic layers, and other atomic structures that exhibit exotic electronic and magnetic behaviors. Your work in experimental science will employ a cryogenic STM to manipulate atomic/molecular structures and study low-energy excitations in various 2D heterostructures. The involved STM platforms include 1K-STM under an external magnetic field up to 8T and 4K-STM combined with optical spectroscopy which allows you to perform STM-induced luminescence and tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy down to angstrom spatial resolution.
In this position you will:

The primary areas of research at the Department of Physics are materials physics, nuclear physics and particle physics. In materials physics, the core research fields are the physics of nanomaterials and thin films, quantum matter and quantum technologies, light-matter interaction and physics and chemistry of nanoparticles. Nuclear physics concentrates on nuclear astrophysics, nuclear structure and applied accelerator-based research, and particle physics on the physics of the strong interaction and ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions, particle cosmology and neutrino physics. The department hosts an Academy of Finland Center of Excellence in Quark Matter. Experimental research at the Department is conducted in the Accelerator Laboratory, the multidisciplinary Nanoscience Center (NSC) and in foreign research centers such as CERN and FAIR.
The University of Jyväskylä is a human-centered environment of 2,500 experts and 14,500 students. Our goal is to create wisdom and well-being for all. JYU's naturally beautiful campus is located in the heart of the city of Jyväskylä. JYU is the third largest employer in Central Finland.
