Job summary

Tampere University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to advance deep learning methodologies for machine and robot perception. The role is tied to the Horizon Europe OPERA project and will be part of the Signal Analysis and Machine Intelligence group, collaborating with the Machine Intelligence group on Tampere University’s team.

The position is full-time from November 1, 2026 to September 30, 2030, located at Hervanta Campus, Tampere.

Qualifications

• Doctoral degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field.
• Proven expertise in ML theory and methods and DL approaches.
• Excellent knowledge of Python and DL libraries (PyTorch or TensorFlow).
• Ability to pursue independent scholarly activity and lead systematic research in DL methods.
• Strong problem solving and critical thinking.
• Excellent English communication; ability to lead and collaborate in multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to publish in high-quality peer-reviewed venues.

Responsibilities

• Propose and develop novel deep learning methodologies for perception tasks.
• Disseminate results in high-quality publications and conferences.
• Collaborate with project partners and integrate methodologies into the project toolbox.
• Contribute to project deliverables and coordinate with team and consortium.
• Potentially contribute to teaching tasks (5-10%).
