Job summary

Aalto University in Espoo, Finland, invites applications for a Doctoral Researcher (PhD student) in thin films for electrocatalysis. You will deposit ALD thin films, characterize their structure and electrochemical performance, and develop active, durable electrocatalysts for HER/OER in AEM electrolyzers.

You will work in the CMAT Department’s Atomic Scale Processing group under Assistant Professor Miika Mattinen, with opportunities to present at international conferences and publish findings.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, (Materials) Physics, or related field
• Experience in experimental laboratory research
• Ability to work independently and in international teams
• Strong English writing and communication skills

Responsibilities

• Deposit thin film catalysts by ALD and develop new processes as needed
• Characterize films (composition, crystallinity, morphology) with spectroscopy, microscopy and X-ray methods
• Perform electrochemical testing for HER/OER and develop test protocols
• Disseminate results via publications and conferences
• Optionally explore operando studies or electrolyzer testing
