Right now, Borealis Finland ltd. is looking for an Operations Engineer or Senior Operating Engineer for its data centers in Renforsin Ranta, Kajaani, Finland.

Engineers are central to Borealis' operations. Their expertise is essential in maintaining the operational infrastructure and developing processes for both current and future customers, while also ensuring compliance with growing regulations. They are responsible for the safety and security of the physical environment and logistics related to both incoming and outgoing assets. Additionally, they monitor and maintain the optimal environmental conditions for IT/HPC devices, in line with customer-specific service level agreements (SLAs). On-site teams manage local "smart hands and eyes" tasks, while also collaborating on development projects and contributing to shared operational processes across all Borealis data centers in the Nordics.

The position is based in Kajaani, Renforsin Ranta and requires physical presence for most part of the working time. The position may require some traveling both domestic and occasional international. Normal working hours in this position are 8-16 from Monday to Friday. This role includes on-call duty (24/7) with rotating week length shifts and occasional tasks outside regular working hours. The Operations Engineer reports to the Site Manager.

The position requires the hired person to successfully pass concise security clearance vetting.

Responsibilities

Operations Engineer tasks (not limited to)

• Ensure operational continuity of data center services:
• Executes the annual preventive and corrective maintenance and updates of physical infrastructure (Electricity, Air & Liquid cooling, Automation, HVAC) in co-operation with the team and maintenance partners.
• Oversees and helps partners and vendors to execute their tasks in the Borealis data center environment: security systems such as access control system, fire trace & suppression, cleaning, building maintenance, etc
• Ensures that operational processes, procedures, and policy documents are maintained and followed with a focus on continuous improvement.
• Monitors and maintains the data center infrastructure in collaboration with the Borealis NOC and responds according to established processes and SLA agreements.
• 24/7 On-call duty – rotating weekly shifts
• Data Center infrastructure technical competence to support problem solving mindset.
• Dedication to problem solving, with ability to engage other relevant parties such as maintenance partners or other operational team members when required.
• Maintains, updates and uses data center maintenance system.
• Follows Borealis ticketing systems and completes requested tasks in professional and timely manner.
• Oversees access control, visitor processes, security processes and safety checks.
• Assists and supports in IT/HPC hardware installations and logistics
• Helps in collecting and analysing critical data for Data center KPIs (i.e. energy consumption, energy efficiency, sustainability metrics,..)

Customer Service

• Acts as point of contact for suppliers and customers, handling service requests and related tasks on site ("Remote Hands" services).
• Guides visitors and manages orders as well as receiving and shipping of products and materials.

   • Willingness to work in weekly rotating on-call shifts and means to access the site on short notice for on-call availability.
3. Technical Skills:
   • Operations Engineer technical competences such as:
     1. High emphasizes on: Electrical-, Air & Liquid cooling-, HVAC- and automation systems.
     2. Access control, fire detection and suppression.
   • Understanding on industrial controls and network systems; IT experience is beneficial but not mandatory.
   • Occupational safety
