Job summary

Academic Work Finland Oy is seeking a Lead Engineer to drive design and selection of primary substation components, bridging clients and suppliers for technical compliance. The role offers a flexible hybrid work model with a path to long-term collaboration with a global industry leader.

You will lead independent design work, manage RFQs, perform field studies, and ensure designs meet IEC/IEEE and APAC standards, with willingness to travel for FATs.

Qualifications

• Must have knowledge of substation primary design or MV component engineering.
• Able to conduct electrical and electromagnetic field studies.
• Experience calculating component clearances.
• Lead Engineer level capable of independent task management.
• Willing to travel for Factory Acceptance Tests.

Responsibilities

• Independently execute component design and supplier/client negotiations for substation projects.
• Select and design primary components (reactors, capacitor banks, busbars).
• Manage RFQ process and technical evaluations with suppliers.
• Conduct electrical and electromagnetic field studies.
• Calculate component clearances for initial and final designs.
• Negotiate technical deviations with clients as needed.
• Attend FAT at international supplier facilities.
• Ensure designs meet IEC, IEEE and APAC requirements.

About the role

You will take on a Lead Engineer role, managing the design and selection of primary components during both tender and project execution phases. You will bridge the gap between clients and suppliers to ensure technical compliance and success.

Work tasks

• This role involves independent technical execution of component design, supplier management, and client technical negotiations for substation projects.
• Select and design primary components including reactors, capacitor banks, and busbars
• Manage the RFQ process and technical evaluations with equipment suppliers
• Conduct electrical and electromagnetic field studies
• Calculate component clearances for substation primary designs
• Negotiate technical deviations and clarifications directly with clients
• Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) at international supplier facilities
• Ensure designs meet global standards such as IEC, IEEE, and local APAC requirements

We are looking for

• Knowledge of substation primary design or medium-voltage component engineering
• Ability to conduct electrical and electromagnetic field studies
• Experience calculating component clearances
• Lead Engineer level capability to manage tasks independently
• Degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Power Systems or High Voltage
• Willingness to travel for Factory Acceptance Tests

It is meritorious if you have

• Good knowledge of IEC, IEEE, or local APAC standards
• Experience in Energy Technology focused on power transmission and plants
