Job summary

Wärtsilä Corporation in Vaasa, Finland, is seeking a Mechanic to join our Sustainable Technology Hub. This permanent role focuses on testing and developing test engines, performing precision mechanical installations, and contributing to safety and efficiency in our engine labs.

The ideal candidate will have technical education relevant to engine technology, with experience reading drawings and using hand and electrical tools. Fluency in Finnish/Swedish is preferred, with English as an advantage.

Qualifications

  • Technical education suitable for the tasks (vocational school or equivalent technical education/relevant work experience).
  • Interest in engine technology and knowledge of its fundamentals; four‑stroke engine knowledge is a plus.
  • Familiarity with control and measurement systems is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of electrical/automation systems is an advantage.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
  • Ability to use manual and electrical tools.
  • Good ability to work both in a team and independently, including shift work when required.
  • Fluent Finnish and/or Swedish language skills.
  • English is considered an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Testing the components, performance, and functionality of test engines in the engine laboratory, and operating the test engine and test equipment.
  • High-quality mechanical installation work required for testing.
  • Maintenance, development, and modification work on test engines and auxiliary systems.
  • Ensuring occupational safety by following instructions and regulations, and reporting safety observations and making improvement suggestions.
  • Using various control and measurement programs and tools.
  • Development of testing methods and environment.
  • Various tasks related to engine and technology development.

As a Mechanic, you will work at the forefront of Wärtsilä's engine and technology development as our operations continue to expand. We offer you the opportunity to become part of an expert team dedicated to developing future engine technologies and advancing the fastest possible transition away from fossil fuels. The position is permanent, and based in Vaasa, Finland, at our Sustainable Technology Hub in Vaskiluoto.

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:
  • Technical education suitable for the tasks (vocational school or equivalent technical education/relevant work experience)
  • Interest in engine technology and knowledge of its fundamentals; deeper knowledge of four‑stroke engine technology is considered an advantage
  • Familiarity with control and measurement systems is considered an advantage
  • Knowledge of electrical/automation systems is considered an advantage

  • Good ability to work both in a team and independently, including shift work when required
  • Fluent Finnish and/or Swedish language skills
  • We work in a multicultural environment, so proficiency in English is considered an advantage
The position requires that the person we are looking for is able to:
  • Prepare and carry out the necessary measurement situations and mechanical installations according to schedule
  • Ensure the quality of testing activities so that results are reliable and comply with industry standards as well as Wärtsilä's guidelines
  • Collaborate in a way that ensures fair teamwork
  • Work in shifts when required
