Job summary

UPM - The Biofore Company is seeking a Senior Manager, Safety to drive safety excellence across our Specialty Materials production sites in Finland, Germany and China. The role is located at a Finnish mill site in Valkeakoski or Jämsä and reports to the VP, Operations, Global Specialty Papers.

You will lead safety strategy, run the safety steering group, and collaborate with HSEQ teams to deliver world-class safety performance. Fluency in English is required; Finnish/German/Chinese are a plus.

Qualifications

• You are a safety leader with a practical, hands-on approach and strong strategic thinking.
• You have at least 7 years’ experience in safety within an industrial operations context.
• Strong knowledge of safety management systems, risk assessments, incident investigations, audits and safety training.
• Experience in process safety, machinery safety, safety in investment projects, contractor safety or chemicals management.
• Solid project management skills and ability to influence stakeholders across functions and cultures.

Responsibilities

• Develop and shape the safety agenda for the Specialty Materials business area in close cooperation with leaders and HSE Managers.
• Run the safety steering group and drive continuous improvement across sites.
• Contribute to UPM H&S Network activities and update safety standards and guidelines.
• Lead implementation and improvement of safety practices across Specialty Materials and sites.
• Ensure deployment of safety requirements through audits, risk assessments, investigations and KPIs.
• Monitor industry trends and translate into practical safety improvements.
• Provide expertise and hands-on support to HSE Managers on local projects.
• Collaborate across Specialty Materials and global networks; travel to sites in Finland, Germany and China.
